I am using these two applications more than any other but of recent i have been using one more that the other prompting me to compare the two. I gave my opinion on my blog at
http://solokay.blogspot.com/2005/11/skype-...voipbuster.html
If you are using the two applications, what is your own opnion. which do you think is better and why, which do you think will win the voip race in the long run?
Lets compare these two great applications here!

The answer is quite simple.
I use VB for all my land line calls.
I use skype for PC2PC calls.
The reason ?? VB is half the price of skypeOut.

My answer is also very simple:
I use Skypeout only for call to Kazakhstan as Voipbuster does not cover this country. I use also Skype for P2Pwith this country.
For my calls to Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Mongolia, definitively VB is much cheaper than Skypeout ans works very well
I use Voipcheap for calling the UK free and NetAppel for calling France free Both work alos very well
With that I cover all my professional needs.
Since two weeks the quality of Skype became terrible (version 4.84 and 1.2), so I intend to switch to VB also for P2P.
As soon as Kazakhstan will appear on another VOIP, I will definitively drop Skype/Skypeout. Maybe I will use MyWebCall which is cheaper than Skypeout and is currently of better quality.
My only concern is that I will lose my investment in the Siemens Gigaset M34/S445 that I see now is only working with Skype.
I would like to find a cordless phone solution enabling me to phone normal phone line and VB + VOIPCheap + NetAppel. Thank you for assistancce if you have any ideas.

Well, all those services are SIP based, an ATA should do the trick and you can connect any cordless phone to it.
For whom doesn't know, an ATA is a box you connect to your Internet connection via a RJ45 network cable and to your phone via a normal phone cable (plus other phone cable to your landline for fallback in case no internet is available). You configure it via your Web browser and then all your calls get routed through the internet. You can setup rules on international dialing codes to say, for example, if I call this country use this service or other.
Don't want to do any advertisement, if you look for ATA on the web you'll find surely a lot of them. In case you really want to buy one, pick one that supports multiple providers. I have one since some months now and it's great.

Same here. Skype think people are loyal, most just want cheap reliable(ish) calls.

Hi Ka, Hilario,
I am now lost with the large quantity of offers I found on the web for ATA devices and I did not found so many proposing moe tahn 2 SIP connections (I would like 3 or 4)
I also read some contradictory comments about the operatiosn with some of them putting me in more trouble for selecting the right device.
Could you please tell me which equipment you use and are happy with.
I am permanently connected to Interent through a broadband cable modem and a Linksys WRT54G broadband router an doperate under Windows XP.
thank you for your recommendations

Same here. I'm using Voipbuster for local calls in Sweden and it's free! Skype only for pc2pc calls. Occasionally I try SkypeOut for local calls just to check the audio quality. My experience is that Voipbuster have better audio quality and is less sensitive to what processes are running on the computer during the call. Latest beta 2.0 crashed several times when I try to call area code 026 in Sweden but Voicebuster have no problems. When I use SkypeOut to Brazil it works excellent.
I will finish my SkypeOut credit and if the SkypeOut rates still are high compared to Voipbuster I will start using Voipbuster to paid destinations.

Just like Kento I use Voipbuster for all PSTN-calls in Sweden (a lot of calls) and Germany for free. Voipbuster is more reliable, in fact it never fails. Skype-outs have failed a lot lately, and that is simply not acceptable. I rather use Voipbuster than Skype peer-to-peer when I have the choice, so that the other part can use their portable PSTN phones.
I guess Voipbuster won't be free forever, but I guess I'll stick to Voipbuster even after that, if Skype-out reliability doesn't improve.

Sorry i'm not using any ATA device.
But I can tell you that in fact they dont support more than 2 SIP servers.
However its possible to program it in a way to use more than 2.
I read about on the voipuser forum.
Go there and look for information about ATA's you find a lot of information there. What I'm using is a USB adaptor with my cordless phone, together with X-PRO soft phone.(i dont use VB soft). This way I dont need to be near the PC to make or receive calls.
voipuser forum is here:

good luck.

Actually some sipura models do allow you to have more than one line! ANd they also allow you to connect to different sip servers.
If you're looking for that stick with the 2002 + series.

Thansk a lot for your adviceswhich helped me to solve my problem. Since yesterday, I can use mt M34 + S445 Gigaset for :
1 SkypeOut (as before, nothing changed)
2 my normal phone line giving me free calls in Belgium
3 sipdiscount (which in fact is a cousin of voipbuster with a large list of free countries replacing VP + voipcheap + netappel in my case)
2 and 3 are automatically monitired thanks to the dial plan (and I still ahve the possibility to add 3 other voip (SIP std) operators.
All that thanks to a Sipura 3000.
I also discovered that MyWebCalls (SIP std) is nearly the same price as SkypeOut for Kazakhstan, but cahrges per second.
On my laptop I have put Sipdiscount and MyWebCalls on x-lite to use abroad with simple USB handset.
Referring to the main subject of the index, the conclusion is that in my case Skype becomes less and less attractive. Only excellent results with the quality of the VP family softwares (and quick reaction of their service of assistance).

Who says skype is not losing the race. Its just a matter of time b4 they find that out themselves too. Even from the hardware perspective voipbuster is better bcos its SIP based, so if you wish to change to another SIP based service you can still use thesame ATA or Gateway but in the case of Skype unless your hardware supports both skype and SIP as soon as you change from skype you have to buy another hardware.

Most people have both skype and voipbuster installed on their system but what we are saying is that people are using voipbuster more than skype at the moment and the major reason is lower rates. What does it benefit you to have your program installed on all the computers in the world but nobody is using it.
