I'm running RHEL 4.0 - fully up-to-date. It's a 1.7GHz Pentium M, Dell D600 laptop. The skype version is 1.2.0.18 (the latest).
Skype out works.
But the audio "skips" quite a bit. This can be heard in echo123. The speaker's voice skips every few seconds. The same is true of voice that is recorded.
So the result is that it is not usuable at all.
I have looked at "top" to confirm that there are no obviously active processes. I have also disabled cpuspeed.
Has anyone else encountered this problem or have suggestions.

If your sound card driver is intel8x0 and your kernel version is above 2.6.11 then you
might try to downgrade to a 2.6.11 kernel. It helped for me.

Yes... sound card is Intel 8x0, but kernel is 2.6.9-22.0.1.EL. So I'm behind the kernel you mentioned. Any other ideas?
