Let me try to explain, and sorry for my bad english. I´m trying to use skype for internal communication in my company. I was trying to give the tool ready to use to the users so I created an account to every network user. After that, I added everyone to my administrator account and send the list to every other account. But the list isn´t loading in another computer that i´m using to test, the list only loads in the computer where i added them.
Am I gonna heve to install Skype in the computers then send the list to the accounts or i can do everything in my own computer?

Thanks.

Nelson,

When you send your contacts to the other account (Skype -> Contacts -> Send Contacts) the new account you sent them to, has to ask every contact for authorization before they can talk/call.

But I understand that although you send them, they just do not show up at all in the other account?

Yes that´s right. All the contacts except the one that send them, stay with Authorization Pending status. But the problem is that the list don´t appear if I log in another computer with any of the accounts. I read in the FAQ that the list is stored in skype servers. that´s what i´m not understanding, they should appear in any computer i log, just like MSN, right?

First authorize them for every other account. When you log in with your own account on other computers, you will find your own contacts.
Sometimes (I had the same problem), they do not show up when not authorized. I don't know why this happens.
Please have them authorized and reprot back.

But even so, the account that send the list should appear, right?

The other accounts should receive a message that account such and so is sending contacts.
Were you authorized before you sent them?

I send the list, then I added the contact that send it. After that, appeared the list with the contacts and added them. I´ve done that in each account. Was that right to do, or should i have added the contact before send the list?

That is ok and are the contacts authorized for each account now?

Not yet. Let me ask you a question, when i added the contacts a Request was issued right? But when I log in the accounts i'm not asked to Authorize the contacts. Is that normal?

Nelson,

You sent your contacts to another account. This account has to ask for authorization with every contact you added to the account.
Click right on every contact with a :?: and ask for auhtorization.
You have to repeat this procedure with every account you sent the contact list to.
This means that if you sent your contact list to let's say 4 other accounts. all the contacts of the list will receive an authorization request 4 times.

paraveterinary, i think i´ve know the problem. i don´t think is a problem with the requests or anything like that. i think it´s the skype servers that take some time to restore my list. in some accounts it was very quick and in others it took quite a while to load, like an 1 hour and a half. Do you have that kind of problem? Is the servers going through problems or anything? Because it would be a real pain in the ass after i have implanted the tool and it take too long to load the list in others computers. i can't even imagine the amount of calls i would get.

Thanks.

Nelson.

Nelson,

There has indeed been a small problem with the Buddy List which was unknown at the time you reported here on the Forum.

Skype for Windows stores Contact List files in C:Documents and SettingsyourwindowsusernameApplication DataSkypeyourskypeusernameconfig.xml. You should back up all files and directories beneath it.

To restore your Contact List, simply copy files back to directory mentioned above. To find this folder you must set your Folder Options to Show Hidden Files or Folders. To do this, open any folder, Select Tools Tab, Select Folder Options, Select View, under the folder icon select the radio button, Show Hidden file and Folders.

Copy all files in the Folder "your Skype Name" onto a floppy disk or USB Stick and paste them into the same folder on the other PC, make sure you do this with Skype shut down on both PC’s otherwise it will not work.

Or this way from main Skype window....> tools...>Archive Contacts........>Backup contacts to file.

ok, but that way the user can erase his contact history and t would have to backup more than 40 machines. i was wanting it to save direct in the server where the users don´t have acess to erase it.

thanks,

No i´m talking about my own server. I know that the history is saved in the local machine. That way the user can erase the history by clicking on that button in skype. If i could save the history in my server i would not have that problem and i could control the conversations.

As a suggestion have a look here C:Documents and SettingsYourwindowsusernameApplication DataSkypeyourskypeusername to see it there are any file that are there that you might be what you are looking for.

the problem was most likely caused by the fact that our central contactlist servers hit some scaling limits this month. things should be better now.

If I enter a city like 'New York' into the detailed Search page, I get a list of Skype subscribers. If I click on 'Find more' (bottom right), I get a new list; and I can do this repeatedly. But if I click 'Find' (top right) again repeatedly, I also get new lists — different from the ones I got with 'Find more'. What is happening?

And more importantly, none of these lists includes contacts who I know are in that city, and who I can find if I don't put in a city into a search field, but put in their name. Why not?

Names are more specific and quite unique so easier to find.

About the different search results, it is the way P2P works via Super Nodes (SKYPE Cloud) that causes different results.
