I'm using the dynamically compiled version on Slackware 9.1. When chatting with a friend who also has the linux client (dynamically compiled, Gentoo 2004.1) I can hear an echo of my own voice delayed by a few seconds. It's annoying because it interferes with what he's saying and I can't hear him properly. This problem doesn't seem to occur when communicating with windows clients.

Hi
I've experienced it in the Linux version a few times as well. It does not happen every time. But sometimes it do. I had the connection to the internet (in either mine or the other end) accused for doing it, since when it starts doing it, it is quite persistent, even if I shut down Skype and restarts the call...
Could be the Linux version though. I think I remember seeing some post mentioning that the echo-cancelling stuff in the linux version is not yet 100% stable...

Yeah, I think it might be due to the echo cancellation functions not being implemented in the linux client yet so when you have linux at both ends, there's nothing to stop echo. Can anyone from Skype confirm this?
Thanks

Hi!
Have experienced the same thing but I'm 99.9%* sure that it cannot be the missing echo cancellation:
1) My friend used a Headset -> minimal or rather no feedback at all possible.
2) I heard the "echo" of my own voice much louder than the voice of my friend.
3) I myself used microphone and speakers. Nonetheless my friend heard hardly any echo of his voice.
Therefore I think there must be some kind of back coupling *inside* my friend's skype. :!:
BTW: We both used Version 0.90.0.4, I'm running Debian unstable and he runs Gentoo.
*since _nothing_ can be 100% sure

i fixed this for myself by disabling the record
function for the mic channel in alsamixer.

To ScreamingLord:
Exactly the same setup, he uses headset, I use headset's mic and my speakers. But when I switch to headset completely It makes no difference
To neenee:
Capture on mic is muted already
