Full Version: skype for linux using certified skype phones?

seems to me that linux sound has always caused a lot of grief

with USB phone units using built in "soundcards" there is a golden opportunity for someone willing to provide a skype phone that works for linux, irrespective of whatever else is going on in the linux box

limiting it to certified skype phones would cut down on the number of hardware variations

having tried linux several times i can get most things working, but i ( and many others) would be delighted if one company would provide linux users for once with a piece of hardware that works right out the box

the nature of skype phones would lend itself to this kind of problem, being all enclosed self contained and relatively simple sound devices

anyone got any hopes for this idea?

many other voip services simply pretend linux does not exist, which is a great shame , i would dearly like to see my favourite service break this mould so to speak

cheers

Hmm...the USB-headets were the most painful I ever had.

In general I cant share your experience: Sound is not the problem (except for some brand-new corean chipsets ;-), but the implementation of Skype on Linux causes the pain.......

you might have more luck with a bluetooth headset. my bluetooth headset works fine except for the annoying bug that blocks the sound device
