I have problems running the official version of Skype 1.2 on my Qtek. Some owners say is works fine, but many say it doesn't. I experience about 15 seconds with good quality one way (sometime in and sometimes out), and really bad (totally unusable) the other way. But never good both ways. After about 30 secs the Qtek boots by itself.
I run Skype with all other programs closed, and with Echo Cancellation Off.
I tried installing Skype Beta 1.2.0.04. I experienced the following:
It worked for a some seconds, and then the Qtek restarted itself. I started Skype again, and the Qtek restarted itself yet again. I deinstalled Skype, but still an error message popped up once every minute (saying something about missing shortcut or something). Even after a soft reset, the error message still kept popping up. After a hard reset, it stopped, obviously.
If you know how I may run Skype successfully on my Qtek 9100, please let me know. Will there be a Skype for WM5 out consuming a bit less processor power?

I cannot get it working either. I have similar symptoms.
I uninstalled it, and now waiting for Skype to get us a WM 5 compatible version.

Well, as I have said in other forums, it's a real pitty that Skype is great on XP But on ppc (win2002,2003,5) it has LOADS of errors. If Skype Staff would make a proper, error free version of Skype for ppc, their income would increas (i.e. more $$), due to more skypeout calls.

Hi..
I tried all the new beta version and is not working properly.... As I was told it has something to do with the 200 Mhz processor??
It would be interesting to know of Skype is planning on releasing a version compatible with the Qtek 9100?? When?? Also... does it make a diference where you install the skype file?? MiniSD or Program file?? Any suggestions????
Thanks

I tried to run the latest beta today on Dopod 838, which is the same device as Qtek 9100. Unfortunately the call quality is unacceptable.
And after uninstall got this problem with pop-up window. Do you guys at Skype have any quality assurance process at all?

Can I remind you all that the entire Skype Pocket PC service is a Beta?! Comments like 'the call quality is unacceptable' and ' Do you guys at Skype have any quality assurance process at all?' are totally out of order, this a free program that is made available for us all to to test and use, stop moaning!

I played with new beta 1.2.0.91 yesterday on my Qtec 9100 (actually branded as Orange SPV M3000).
Good news: Skype worked, I managed to chat and make a phonecall(previous beta 1.2.0.04 supported just calls, chating did not work on my M3000 last month)
But this mornign I unistalled Skype, because:
1. I experienced freezing of my device - expecially when updating AvantGo channels;
2. the voice quality was much worse than previous beta;
3. refreshing of my online status was not stable, I experienced some ons and offs of my online status.
BTW, uninstalling Skype was not an easy job.
I ended up with the hard reset on the device.
Nevertheless I appreciate the progres Skype team did in supporting WM 5.0 - I will try next version, too :wink:
