ok i'm one of the thousand? users, who have the big problem with skype and usb sound.
i've searched the whole internet for a good answer how to use a second soundcard (usb) with skype.

now i've found a site, someone (must be a guy from novell) say's there, in the two driver files for usb-audio is a bug and he has attached two newer files to his posting.

so i've downloaded this files, copied it over the two local files and restart my maschine.

and what for an wonder, after that i was able to switch to dsp1 and skype used it and my testcall to echo123 was succesfull.

i was able to hear the guy (the german answermaschine is a guy) and i was able to record my voice to him and hear my voice after that.
i've tested it 10 times, no problems.

one time i had the problem, after disconnecting the call in the first 3 seconds, the sound was gone, i must restart skype, then it was ok again.

the guy in this side say there is an updated kernel for suse 10.0 (kernel-version 2.6.13-15-default) with this new files, so try to find it and test it, but i think, it is easier for all, to use the two files, that you can download at the following link's:

www.people.freenet.de/go-mcpop/snd-usb-audio.ko
www.people.freenet.de/go-mcpop/snd-usb-lib.ko

copy this two files to "/lib/modules/2.6.13-15-default/kernel/sound/usb/" and overwrite the old two files.
i don't know if there the reason to restart the complete maschine or if you only need to log in again to the x-server.

i've tested all the point's in the pinned sound-faq's, but no tip was solving the problem.
so i've changed all back to the defaults before i start the testing and tried the two files.

try this out and will it solve the problem from all the other people here, then a mod should pin this topic or merge it with the existing sound-faq's.

Thanks it worked for me.

I can now use my USB headset with Suse 10. I have the commercial release with kernel 2.6.13-15 default

no problem man, this files solve the problem with the "allready used device".

at that moment, when kde or gnome or ... if start, there is the first attach to the usb-devive and then kde or ... don“t give it free, so skype has no sound. on usb.

This worked for me on the 32-bit version of OpenSuse 10.0 as well. Thanks. I'd also like to get this working on my 64-bit machine but at this moment, a kernel update isn't available. Do you have a link to the original site where this solution was posted?

I think it was bugzilla.org

Try to search there for topic that contains the followig words:

usb headset logitech

in the topic with the bugged usb-driver, the "topic-starter" had some probs with his usb-headset from logitech and i had fount the topic through other websides.

I can say you the direct link, because my firefox-setup delete all cached files after closing firefox.

There was a bug in Alsa introduced somewhere with Alsa Version 1.0.9 and fixed with 1.0.10rc3.

Just check /proc/asound/version:

CODE

Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.10rc3 (Mon Nov 07 13:30:21 2005 UTC).

If you have anything below 1.0.10rc3 most probably you don't have the fix in the snd_usb_audio module.

OK, I've done that and it works for me on both the 32 and 64bit versions of OpenSuse.

I should also mention that a kernel update was made available today that includes "various ALSA fixes". I installed and tested that first (version 2.6.13-15.7) and this cleared the problem even without upgrading to ALSA version 1.0.10. Yast reported the installed version as 1.0.9-23 so presumably the fix for this problem is also included in the USB sound modules included with this kernel.

The updated kernel fix also works ok with the updated Alsa to version 1.0.10 on SUSE 10.0
