I've heard about other older version and their better performances for 56k modem users, considering the upload bandwidth. Which one should be the best? I'd appreciate any help provided as long as this must be a relevant question for many more users. Thanks.

1.4.* was better than 1.3.* . I haven't tested 2.0 with modem users yet, but as a rule of thumb, always get the latest version for an optimal experience, as bandwidth usage is one of the thinks the Skype developers keep their eyes on.

1.2.0.48 was quite OK but sometimes big delaing, 1.3.xxxwas not good, actual final 1.4.0.84 is VERY GOOD, actual Beta 2.0.0.43 is as good in voice, but the video takes to much of bandwidth. I am using 2.0.0.43 at the moment and it is fine.
Note that this is my personal experience using my analog connection usually connected at 42,6 kb

If you can run VIDEO at 42,6 kb on a modem - that's fantastic!

It was formerly possible with vSkype, but the actual version Spontania, Festoon, Wigi, Skype2 are wasting to much of bandwidth.
MSN Audio+Video is possible, Audio is not good, but one can understand.
