hello,
I use skype with winxp and debian sarge
there is a $ in my password which is no problem with skype for windows or the web account.
the debian skype package only accepts three letters if i punch in the dollar sign.
if I type in my password and try to put the $ at the correct place skype just ignores it.
I guess its a "real bug"
would someone try to recreated this scenario and confirm this or not
thx

Other have had the same problem (including me), as detailed in http://forum.skype.com/viewtopic.php?t=374...559dc59b54d6832

I submitted a support request, but it was already closed twice without an answer (at least an answer that has anything to do with the problem).

By the way, what are these support guys thinking when they answer the support requests!? Most of the times they answer with some stupid things, like I wouldn't know how to open a webpage or something!! I wonder if they even read what we write.

Just for you to see, when I submitted my support request about this problem, they gave the following answer:

If you are currently logged into Skype you can change your password by going to File -> Change Password.  Otherwise you can reset your password by visiting this page: http://www.skype.com/help_passwordreminder.html

If this does not work you may have incorrectly filled in your email address when you registered or you registered with a different address. Also, check you Junk Mail folder, sometimes the password reminders are sent there by mistake.

If the reminder does not work please register another account with a new username since your identity cannot be verified in any other way.

If you have SkypeOut credit please notify us and we can verify your account using your billing information.[/quote]

I guess they have like 3 or 4 answers to give when anyone asks for something. Has anyone got this answer already? Maybe it would be fun to start a thread to find out how many different answers they have.

Right, just like we said in http://forum.skype.com/viewtopic.php?t=374...559dc59b54d6832 and like I reported to in my Support Request.

It's not a bug on Linux. It's a bug on Windows. Skype passwords must not contain certain characters like $%õäöü[{]}, but Windows Skype currently doesn't check this correctly. So please run your Windows Skype, and change your password to [a-zA-Z0-9@.,_-]{4-20}.

What is a little strange is why it (the Linux version) let's me input characters like ) and : if, and only if, they appear in the first 4 characters.

I have the same problem. If this is a bug on Windows, then maybe it is a bug in the web interface too? Because the web interface allows the special characters. By the way, I don't like restrictions to not use those characters, there is no reason for such restriction.
