My son in presently in Germany. He will be there for about a year. What is the best solution for a WiFi phone? I understand that some phones have issues with networks which need authentication. Is the IPhone or the ITouch a good solution? He has a small netbook but does not carry it with him all the time.

Hello! Please have a look here:
http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic...t&p=1921011I wrote a little about Skype wi-fi phones and the best one is the Ipevo S0-20.
I wrote also a detailed review of it on my blog:

The iPhone's Skype client is also very good and allows you making calls and exchanging text messages (making calls only over wifi) while Skype WiFI phones only can make/receive calls /voicemails.

See my post under: IPEVO SO-20 WiFi Phone Review SEP 2009
The Apple iPhone has the advantage of being able to access WiFi networks which require web authentication increasing the number of networks you can connect to. Disadvantage is that it is heavier bulkier, more expensive, and a target for thieves, compared with the IPEVO WiFi skype phone.
