I am unable to get any sound out of skype on my thinkpad t23 with fedora core 1. I installed skype-0.90.0.3.qt3.1-1.i386.rpm and tried rebooting and running as root to be sure that it wasn't access-right problems with the sounde devices, but with no effect.
Running on my desktop with Red Hat 9 works perfectly and all other tools accessing /dev/dsp seems to work as they should (e.g. "record", "play").
Anyone got an idea? What should I test?

I have found that for some reason on my 600x the sound drivers does not recognize that the card can record.
With this in mind you might start by seeing if you can even record sound
with your Thinkpad.

Well, as I said, e.g. "record" and "play" both works, although I have to turn line and volume up to maximum to get a decent level of output. I have still no idea why skype doesn't seem to like my sound card or whatever it is that is causing the problem.
I have tried again to look at the consoile output and compare with what I get on the RedHat 9 machine that works ok. The single difference is the final line
ioctl set duplex: Invalid argument
when receiving the first call.

same problem here. ibm t23 running fedora core 1 and skype makes no sound at all.

I have now solved my problems by installing alsa -- using alas instead of oss makes skype work as it should. The only problem I have is that the microphone level seems to be very low; this probably has nothing to do with skype, though.
