Full Version: video works but preview doesn't after Red Hat upgrade

I have video working perfectly under RHEL 5.3 using a logitech quickcam.
I have since upgraded to RHEL 5.4. Now the test function and the preview when making a call don't work. But I'm told the my callers can receive my video perfectly ok.

The version of the kernel I've just upgraded to is 2.6.18-159.el5 and the version of skype I am running is 2.0.0.72

Suggestions most welcome.

I believe Red Hat did some cleanup work on the video drivers that is admirable from a systems standpoint but broke some existing apps that relied on kludges.

They provide two libraries that address these issues. Others have suggested this but it's worth repeating:

LD_PRELOAD=$LD_PRELOAD:/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
...or...
LD_PRELOAD=$LD_PRELOAD:/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so skype

Thanks for the suggestion. Eventually I sorted this out. It was cause my a mismatch of level of ATI driver. In order to fix a problem I had installed from ATI a very recent driver, which I had forgotten about. The upgrade to my OS partially wiped out the AIT driver. When I reinstalled then correctly backed out the ATI driver everything worked again.
