Full Version: To the developers of Skype - Ubuntu Breezy
Skype Community > English > Linux
Rattlesnake_
I just want to inform you that the official release of Ubuntu Breezy was about a month ago. Since Ubuntu has become a very popular distro, I find it strange that no package has been made for Breezy with the right dependencies.

Is it that hard to fix, or don't you really care?

Have a nice saturday evening wink.png.
dukedave_
yes that would be great - its funny how just about any skype linux user would happily take the few hours it would need given the opportunity smile.png
Rattlesnake_
Yes, that is the disadvantage of non-free programs. No one care to do anything, unless they get paid for it. Obviously, Opera (browser) pays their developers better wink.png.

Just a guess, but I think Skype has a lot more Ubuntu users than Opera, too.

Skype new about the problem, and how to fix it in a couple of minutes, long before they released 1.2.0.18.
They obviously don't give a ****.

They don't care, and neither do I. If you really have to use Linux, please use a real distribution.

I use Kubuntu and as Ubuntu it's a real Debian-Linux distribution easiest to maintain than RH/Fedora

It means that the Linux community is damaging itself because there are now so many distributions. Little geeks with big egos all want to be the "dungeon masters" of their own distributions. It made me laugh just now when I read that Ubuntu is now split off into kubuntu. This is one reason why Linux has not hit the mainstream.

Why should Skype support all of your distributions? You know why Mac OS and Windows have more upto date Skype software? It is because of all the f**king about the programmers have to do to get it to run on all your "customised" distributions.

If you want decent software, and you want Linux to become popular, then stop being gimps.

And take a bath you greasy pr**ks.

I think you don't know to much about Linux, Kubuntu is not a split of Ubuntu, but the same with KDE as graphic layer. (K)Ubuntu are built on Debian distribution and all developement make on Debian will work on Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Knoppix, etc.

Stay on Windows or Mac OS, if it's good for you, but after 25 years on this business I make my choice, Linux, perhaps it's not the best, but it's mine, and sorry for the f**king programmers they do it.

(Sorry for my poor english)

Sam.

It's not really true, expecially under 64bit, however compatibility is good.

While I do not agree with you, I do respect your right to express your opinion. However, I find your tone most offensive.

It is a shame the he/she doesn't have anything better to do.

He is kind of rightt. There are too many distributions or package managers for Linux. If we centralized it, like the X Server, then it's easier for developers to develop for Linux.

IMHO, I hate the DEB package manager. I like the RPM better tongueout.png

Of course, they can't adapt to all distros, but it shouldn't be too hard adapting to the most populars.

On Skypes download page - http://www.skype.com/products/skype/linux/ - they claim that it is for Ubuntu:
"Debian package (7.7 MB)
Xandros, MEPIS, Ubuntu, other Debian-based distros"

This problem affects Debian Sarge as well.
