Full Version: Business Control Pannel Online Numbers

Hi there,

my company has been using Skype for some time and recently we setup a business control pannel.

We added in the existing Skype accounts and assigned them call plans. However we are not able to assign them telephone numbers. I've logged a call with the Skype helpdesk, but would like to know the following:

1) can you only assign online numbers to members of your business created using the business control pannel?

2) Is this a bug and does anyone have an ETA of when it will be resolved?

If 1 is correct, I've tried to add members using the business control pannel and I get an internal error on the Skype Website. Does anyone know why this bug would be happening?

If anyone could shed some light on this, it would be very much appreciated.

Regards,

Keith

Keith:
I am having the same issue it seems. I don't know how to resolve it, but I hope somebody can reply to our posts. We just recently started using Skype and the BCP and today I purchased three online numbers and have been fervently trying to assign them to specific people to no avail. When I click on the person, it says "Cannot assign online number to this account" WHY?!
Thanks to anyone who knows the answer and can help!

The following is in reply to: http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=392781

For what it is worth, here's my understanding having found myself in a similar position at the start of today.

Re: (1) - Can we assign 'Online Numbers' (The new VoIP / Geo-Numbers) to members (pre-existing Skype named accounts) which have not been created using the 'Business Control Panel->Add Members->Create Business Accounts' option.

Short Answer: Not currently ( see http://heartbeat.skype.com/ for more details ) ... it would appear that only NEW! members currently can be assigned the new online numbers using the 'Business Control Panel' AFTER! you have created them using the option: 'Business Control Panel->Add Members->Create Business Accounts'

I have read many posts, which by in large are more confusing the issue, than being of any real help, because the bottom line appears to be:

Open a new Business Account = Open new business account members to match (if you want it to work correctly). Later lets look at the workaround I employed.

Re: (2) "Is this a bug..."
It would, by in large appear to be the case, that perhaps when the system was designed / deployed, it may not have been 100% compatible with pre-existing (old style) Skype accounts and therefore will not allow them to be migrated correctly into a new 'Business Account' using the 'Business Control Panel' and the process of trying to assign a 'Online Number' to these old Skype accounts fails as a result.

Re: (3) "Shedding some light on this ..."
As a person who by in large allowed 'Skype' to pass me by, I ventured the VoIP route (with good success). Looking at the Skype carry-on ... I would have to say …

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth.

I have chatted with Skypes Support, and it seems that this is a problem they are aware of. Curious that this is still not being addressed more expeditiously.

Hoping they will fix asap. It's been already more than 2 weeks, and I've purchased the Skypein numbers, but still cannot assign.

Are there many others out there who have this problem, or is it just a few?

Hi Topperco, check out my blog (see previous post) for hope in my case, I worked around the problem.

It is my understanding that I can always 'Remove' and then 'Re-assign' the 'OnLine Number' later when the problem has been resolved.

In the interim, I can get some value from my new number and ... as I say in my blog ... I was up and running in 10mins.
