Hi
I'm new to the Skype Forums, maybe this topic has been discussed before, maybe not.
I bought a Philips VOIP841 Skype phone around Feb of 2008. It was our ideal solution at the time. I wanted a completely stand alone cordless skype phone, so we could receive skypein calls without having any of our computers on.
Unfortunately this phone, plus another similar handset I bought on Amazon have both developed faults and are no longer usable.
Looking around for something to replace them with, I've got the impression that no one in the USA is doing phones like this any more. There is a newer Philips model, (VOIP3211) but it looks like it has been discontinued by Philips too, as it's only available for high prices second hand on Amazon.
My conjecture is that there was something fundamentally wrong with both these phones that slipped through Philips's quality control, they have both been discontinued, and Philips don't do Skype phones any more.
Having got dependent on the old one, this is kinda annoying, as we are missing calls as we are forgetting to leave a computer on and connected to Skype.
So are there any cordless skype phones available anywhere and I'm just missing it?
Anyone know what was so wrong with the Philips phones that they only lasted a few months and Philips withdrew them?
cheers,
Tom.

Sadly, you are right. To my best knowledge, there is no more viable pc-less Skype cordless phones available on the market. The closest thing you can find is the Ipevo wifi phone SO-20, which has received rave reviews. There are still some excellent options for pc-less desk top phones (not cordless

).
Philips Skype phones are always problematic and this is the primary reason why we did not carry this brand.

Why bother with a SKYPE phone? I have been using a D-Link DPH 50U USB VoIP adapter for several years connected to a DECT phone system with four phones scattered around my apartment. It works great!

There are still good Skype phones, but It all depends on how much your willing to spend and what your using it for. What is the maximum your willing to spend on a good pc less Skype phone? Are you using it for Business? Why do you prefer not using a PC?

i have had this qustion in mind since 2008 when i was looking for a cordless skype phone and faced the fact that Voip841 is discontinued and i had to buy 2 sets from ebay with used voucher cards, My guess is that as Philips Voip841 and Netgear SPH200D are having same firmware and also web based setting page and menus, the product has been designed by another private company and was sold to them both, I have problems with my voip841, but i still think its the best choice for me.
check this one too if you are not intrested in Voip841:

Well the Wifi phone Ipevo S0-20 is really the best of all, I guess. My problem is that all the DECT/USB phones seem to be dead and I search for a model that works in Windows 7 64bit. Anybody who tried?
