Hi,

I have installed skype in fedora core 4 with the fedora core 3 rpm.
It runs ok, but only with root.
With normal user it runs very slow and can't connect.

Thanks,
Pedro Mazzoni

weird, you should file that as a bug report to Skype. It works fine on SuSE Linux 10.0

it's the same for me with the new skype version 1.20.18 and on debian testing (kernel 2.6.14). that's annoying and strange. :?

I am running Skype 1.2.0.18 under SuSE 9.3 and it works OK (apart from the known bug), but only if it runs as root. I worked around it by giving the suid bit to /usr/bin/skype - not ideal but it works.

Try deleting the profile folder in your home directory.
CODE
rm -rf ~/.Skype/

Well, i´ve the same problem running skype as normal user. I´m using SuSE 10.0 with KDE 3.5beta. Running skype as normal user never leads to a sucessfull login.

Thanks Rattlesnake you gave me the idea. I did as root "chmod -R 777 /home/daddy/.Skype" and everything works perfectly.
