Full Version: How to force constant highest resolution & sacrifice frame rate
Skype Community > English > Mac OS X > Video
dgd
I've tried changing the video settings in"config.xml" which worked for a few seconds, (640X480 1 Fps). Then Skype apparently reduced the resolution and increased the frame rate outside the "config.xml" file.
So, how to make the change stick?

I want to use this as a baby room monitor and need the best possible picture with constant sound. Frame rate can be low.

My internet connection is slow (64K) and I know speeding that up would work. But I am in the Philippines and speeding up cost lots and might not speed up that much anyway.

Currently I get a transmission (as shown by receiving computer Video recv:) of a constant 160X120 with frame rates of 7-30 FPS.

Although I can't address the matter of swapping resolution for frame rate, I do have a suggestion. Rather than using Skype for monitoring purposes, you might consider EvoCam, which I've used successfully for quite some time: http://www.evological.com/evocam.html

Couldn't hurt to try...

I sent the message below to your email but it got rejected:

Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried EvoCam and am happy with the picture quality and some of the features.
What I have not been able to figure out is how to get an audio stream from the sending computer.
Nor can I figure out how to remotely manage the sending camera controls particularly if I am using the built in web server.
Could use some tips if you have time.
Cheers.

Egad. Wish I could help, but I haven't fiddled with the settings other than to set an 'item' to trigger when motion is detected. A still shot is then sent to my email (and received on my iPhone). At the same time, a video clip is recorded and saved to my hard disk. I honestly don't remember how I set it up, but it must have been intuitive or I'd neve have figured it out (I'm a bit of a Luddite).

Another bit of software that allows live monitoring is iCamSource (http://skjm.com/icam/) I tend to use it more than EvoCam.

Sorry I can't give you any specific hints.
