On older versions of Skype sound was working fine. But since the last update, i get the following:
Running artsd found
Starting artsd wrapped skype
==========================================
Running wrapped Skype failed, trying not-wrapped mode...
==========================================
The sound just doesn't work at all.
I have selected the /dev/dsp1 on Tools->Options->Hand/Headsets as always.
I can't belive that older versions were just working automatically and the newest is not able to recognize my sound. I have Skype version 1.2.0.11 and just emerge -uDav world on Gentoo, using KDE.
If someone has any coments, please let me know. Sound works perfectly well with arts on KDE and any other application. I can make video conferences with Gnomemeeting and everything works just fine.
Cheers!

jimmy, I think this might be an artsd problem with Gentoo. Have a look
here and
here? . I don't use KDE or artsd, so I don't think I can be of much more help.

Hey,
Does your Skype interface opens up after you get the message about starting in non-wrapped mode? I am trying to use Skype under Gentoo as well. It used to work but now I get the same message as you do but the interface does not even appear.
Any suggestion?
I am not using artsd or esd and sound works perfectly fineon my laptop.
Thanks!

I use skype with gentoo and I have the same message but it seems a warning. Since 1.2 version and with kernel 2.6.12 I have the most hard problem that after the first call the sound is not released and not more call are possible without restarting skype. This is a quite known bug but it is interesting coming only upgrading the kernel.
