Full Version: Input/Output Sound Error OSS / Output Error Arts [solved]

I have OSS sound.

But I have a big problem with Skype:

I have been trying with Echo123:

Without using arts (I mean out of KDE or in KDE without using artsdsp -m skype), I have no sound in skype. (When i try to speak to someone we can not hear each other, and if i try to speak to Echo, skype tells me that my sound is not working properly).

If I use artsdsp, I can hear, I can hear (at least to Echo123) but I can not be heared at all, I have switched on the "Full Duplex" option, but it remains failing. In principle, I thought I had ALSA sound, but I've checked the sound part of Kcontrol panel I can only choose OSS (and OSS multithread), so I should be using OSS. I have tested other programs like mplayer or xmms works perfectly.

What do you think that could be happening in my computer? Could you tell me which log/ hardware message I should post here so that we can look for what am i doing wrong?

I am using Debian GNU/Linux on a laptop, and I have installed skype from the skype_1.1.0.20-1_i386.deb file.

Regards and thank you in advance,
Antonio

I realized of more sound problems in other programs like Gaim, and I have solved it upgrading to ALSA and using the compability with OSS. Now, everything is working fine!!

To get out if you have OSS driver loaded of ALSA drivers you can look at lsmod. If it lists snd_* modules you have alsa.

Does recording with arecord (if you have alsa installed) or sox work? Might be that your mixer settings are not correct (mic-select, capture)
