If you are on 64 bit OpenSUSE here is what you do...
1. In YaST, install createrepo
2. Make a /repo directory on your computer
3. Download your rpm from Skype and put it in your /repo directory
4. Run the command to create all your xml repo directory information for YaST:
# createrepo /repo
5. Now run the command that will add your custom rpm repository to YaST:
# zypper ar /repo my_repository
6. Go into YaST software management and install
All missing dependencies will automatically be downloaded and managed by YaST!

Clear and easy and top of all: it works.
Thanks.

Cool! You can add other RPMs to your repo directory besides skype and YaST will manage them. However, make sure you check the automatically refresh option for your custom repository in YaST or you will not see your software in YaST listings.
Cheers!

Great that someone has come up with a hack to install Skype but I am not a hacker and it is all double dutch.
How does one report a bug so that mere mortals can install the latest Skype in opensuse 11.1 without all this rigamarole ...
When trying to install Skype via Yast one gets the following error message:
Following packages haven't been found on the medium:
skype
find a solution to this and everything ought to work ... right???
no selfrighteous flames or replies please,

Why not just download the Skype RPM and install on the commandline using
zypper install skype*.rpm
That also makes sure that all dependencies are pulled in.
