My main O/S is UBUNTU , however I have installed the "Virtual Box" virtual machine to run Windows XP which I sometimes need to use. My biggest problem is that I cannot run Skype !. I can download, install, but when I try to open it I get the error message " Sorry but Skype has to close" that's it. Anyone any ideas on this ?

I'm not sure you can run skype in the virtual machine.
I think the emulated hardware is not compatable with what skype expects.
You can install skype in ubuntu and you won't have to use the virtual machine for this.
It works great also with most of the modern webcams

Hi - I have found that if I revert to an earlier version 3.8.0.115 - this works fine on V.Box.
I already have Skype on UBUNTU and as you say it works very well. I just wanted to have it on both O/S to save repeated changeover.
What happens is I can be working away and someone decides to call me !!! then I have to close down and reopen another O/S.
On the WEBCAM front I have found that many do NOT support Linux - however I have a Logitek which is O.K.

I don't understand why you would like to run skype in a virtual machine, when it runs on ubuntu.

Cause the skype version under linux version is older and so you can't have useful options like desktop sharing or added games/applications...
