Full Version: horrible lag using ARTS/ALSA

Debian user, everything is fine unisg OSS ... but OSS remains OSS ... so I am trying to get real full duplex ... I mean, not having to shut down all sound apps when making calls.

I have tried several configurations, following the arts faq of Gentoo, picking a .asoundrc file on IRC, and the 2 ones edscribed in this forum ... all have the same problem: more than 20s lag after one minute of chat. It is not a network lag, because I have the 2 computers side by side, and as soon as one computer hangs down, the other one closes the chat at once.

I wont past here conf which does not work; I just ask: does any one have a different conf than the default Gentoo, or the one in this forum, and have better results ?

20s lag is really too much.

esddsp and aoss does not work at all.

For me it depends on the computer I use...
In addition reducing buffer size reduces the lag or the speed it's growing at.
Try setting the exact buffer settings that Skype uses for direct OSS access for artsd and dmix/dsnoop plugins!
