whenever me and my girlfriend skype video some time in the convo her skype freezes and brings up the kernel error saying to restart immediately. any clue as to why this is?

Most times it happens due to hardware error. Maybe some periferal is not working Ok, or either she has a hardware problem on her Mac.

Some questions that may help to find out:
Can she run a hardware test in the computer?
Is she using some external device, specially the webcam, which one is she using, does it have drivers?
Does it happen in any other videocalls or only between you and her?

Anyways, it would be nice to know something else related to the computer: Model, OS version, Skype version…

If you want my advice, update the system, Quicktime and/or all the possible software updates may help. Also do some maintenance tasks (Google for Onyx or Cocktail).
