Full Version: Test call fails but sound seems to finally work

Hi all,
I installed skype on my system:

Ubuntu 8.04
AMD 64
Gigabyte K8N Pro-sli motherboard with an inernal Nvidia CK804 soundcard

I managed to install the the 386 package on my system but I got some errors about libqt not being installed (even though it is installed but then it might be the x64 version).

Anyway I tried to launch it and it runs fine but at first I had no sound at all. After rebooting I get the startup sound and when I go to Options > Sound device the "make test sound" test works.

However when I try to make a test call it just says "Call failed". Before rebooting it used to say "Call Failed: Problem with Audio Playback" but now it's just Call failed and I hear the test sound... I tried changing the Sound Out and Ringing devices from default to whatever but no change.

Does anybody have a clue?
Thanks a lot

What ALSA library version do you use?
Pavle
Hi Daniel,
Thx for replying. How do I check the ALSA library version? It should be up to date as I am on 8.04 and I update the OS automatically.

I tried:
grep VERSION_STR /usr/include/alsa/version.h

but there is no alsa folder in /usr/include ...
Thanks.

P.S. Isn't there a file which stores the logs for every skype call? "Call failed" is not explanatory at all and I have no idea what blocks it...

fraga@tux ~/src$ grep VERSION_STR /usr/include/alsa/version.h
#define SND_LIB_VERSION_STR "1.0.16"

Yes, you looked here, right?

http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php/TroubleS...library_version

Anyway you seem to not have development files, try to use some method your distribution uses.

I don't know if there's a log.
