Full Version: Can't make calls... /dev/dsp busy

I am running skype on KDE, system is Freebsd 4.11 stable.

Hardware is Dell Inspiron 7000, 266 mhz, soundcard is ESS Maestro 2E.

Skype starts fine, can contact others for chat; however, when I try to make a call it says there is a problem with the sound device, and the log says /dev/dsp is busy.

Tried starting skype with "artsdsp -m skype" and got:
error while loading shared libraries: /usr/local/lib/libartsdsp.so.0: ELF file OS ABI invalid

Tried changing the sound to full duplex, but upon doing that the sound stops working altogether. i.e. /dev/dsp does not respond to aRts.

Ideas on what else to try?

Thanks.

There is a problem with ESS Maestro and skype although the symptoms you describe are a little different.
