Captain Kirk

Dear Wilhem

Anything news about this?

Our Company Kirk Outsourcing uses this skype in number as a main number for clients to call in.

Expected loss for having the "Skype In" out of order is about 1.000 USD a day.

I havent heard from skype support for 5 days so. Its a problem!

Best regards

Kirk

Hi Captain Kirk,

We have not been able to locate any issue in our systems. That means that you might need to reconfigure your settings:

For Windows users:

Please try the procedure as follows. That causes an effective refresh to Skype's call routing configuration settings.

* Quit Skype

* Locate the shared.xml file found in
C:\Documents and settings\Your Windows Username\Application
data\Skype\shared.xml

In case you do not observe the file mentioned, please do the following:

- Go to C:\Documents and settings\Your Windows Username\Application
data\Skype
- Locate tab Tools (on your upper windows panel) > Folder options. On the
pop up window select View tab -> locate Advanced settings area and scroll
down to Hidden files and folders.
- Locate Show hidden files and Folders and tick the line.
- Click OK to save your changes.
- After that refresh your folder by clicking on F5 button (on your
keyboard).
- You will see shared (xml document) right away.

* Delete shared.xml
* Start Skype (shared.xml will be recreated).

IMPORTANT:

After that, please adjust privacy settings as suggested below.

On Skype client open Tools > Options.
On the pop-up window choose Privacy tab, locate the area 'Allow SkypeIn calls from' and select the check box 'anyone'.

If mentioned settings already set up as required, please complete 2 suggested steps below.

1. On Skype client open Tools > Options.
On the pop-up window choose Privacy tab, locate the area 'Allow SkypeIn calls from', select the check box ' my contacts ' and click the 'Save' button.

2. Wait for approximately 5 minutes and complete the procedure below:

Once again, on Skype client open Tools > Options.
On the pop-up window choose Privacy tab, locate area 'Allow SkypeIn calls from', select the check box 'anyone ' and click the 'Save' button to refresh the configuration

For Mac users

First of all, please try the procedure as follows. That causes an effective refresh to Skype's call routing configuration settings.

1. Quit Skype
2. Go to the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Skype/
3. Delete the file "shared.xml"
4. Start Skype

After that, please adjust privacy settings as suggested.

In Skype open Skype > Preferences > Privacy.

Locate the area 'Allow SkypeIn calls from' and select the check box 'Anyone'.

Important:

If these settings are already configured, please complete 2 suggested steps below:

1. On Skype program, please open Skype > Preferences > Privacy.
Locate the area 'Allow SkypeIn calls from' and select the check box ' my contacts '.

2. Wait for approximately 5 minutes and complete the procedure below.
Open the Privacy section again, locate the area 'Allow SkypeIn calls from' and select the check box 'Anyone'.

Just in case:

If you don`t get a warning of ringing tones that an incoming call is coming in, then please check the following settings:

Skype > Preferences > Notifications Locate the area called "Event" and select "Incoming call".
The box "Play sound" should be ticked.
The box "Speak text" should be unticked.

I hope this will help, let me know if it doesn't.

Kind regards,

Wilhelm

I have the exact same problem with my Danish SkypeIn number.
I'm sorry to say the the explanation from Skype is way out!!! This has nothing to do with windows or Mac. Its the pure telephone number that is not working. Try to call it from a landline!! - remember +45, and don't use Skype (that does not work!!).

I don't use Windows nor Mac. I use a Skype phone connected directly to the Internet. But it's turned off. BUT AGAIN IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PROBLEM. I HAVE JUST CALLED THE NUMBER OF Captain Kirk +45 36 96 43 86 - FROM A NORMAL PHONE, BY LANDLINE. YOU GET A TRE TONE SIGNAL INDICATING THAT THE THERE IS A FAULT ON THE NUMBERM, OR THE NUMBER DOES NOT EXIST,

SKYPE: SOLVE YOUR TECHICAL PROBLEM, AND STOP ANOYING YOUR CUSTOMERS.

PS: I HAVE SEND SEVERAL REQUESTS TO SKYPE SUPPORT, AND GET NO ANWVER AT ALL. THEY MIGHT KNOW THEY GOT A SERIOUS PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!

SKYPE - WAKE UP! WE ARE LOOKING FOR BETTER SERVICE AT OTHER SUPPLIERS.
Captain Kirk
Hi Wilhelm

Your advise is useless. It has nothing to do with the settings of Skype on the PC. I did take me the time to do as you suggested but with no possitive result.

I tried to log in on 3-4 PC`s I still get the same negative result. I agree with the commend of John Hund below.

Skype Support havent answered me yet sadsmile.png

i'm having the exact same problem with a danish number - though mine is a skype to go and not a skypein number..

i recently wrote support, but since it seems likely that they might not answer within the 24-48 hour time limit they promise i'm writing here as well - hoping that the more people telling about the problem the more seriously they'll take it.

and just to emphasize what is already stated: the problem is not my pc, it's the phone number.

We have excatly exact same experience. Our SkypeIn number hasn't worked since 21st August. I have tried to send several (four!) support requests to Skype and nothing - absolutely NOTHING happens...

So, Skype-folks, PLEASE WAKE UP, and fix this problem...

BTW, we are using a no-computer-needed RTX Dualphone connected directly to the internet via the phone's own router, so don't reply with some useless setup instructions for windows

Hi,

We are still trying to find out what the issue may be. The problem does not apply to all Danish SkypeIn numbers, which is making troubleshooting more complicated. The SkypeIn service is delivered by local partners and we are working with them to localize the issue.

It would help to pinpoint the issue if the customers experiencing the problem could:

1) submit a support ticket to log a formal support request and

2) send me a PM with your Skype name and SkypeIn number - I will send those numbers to the technicians for further investigation. It will also be of help if you add details of what equipment and/or operating system you are using for Skype. (In general it is always good to provide useful information such as this - it helps us to locate the problem and provide useful suggestions/replies to your requests.)

All customers affected by this issue will be compensated, to be determined after the problem has been solved.

We are sorry for the inconvenience this is causing.

Kind regards,

Wilhelm

FINALLY, Skype acknowledges, that there is a problem with the Danish SkypeIn/online numbers. Good!

It's also good to know that action is now being taken to rectify to problem. Be sure to find uot what caused this, so that we will not be left at worlds's end again...

Third, I'm sure may of us would like to know what caused this problem, either to decide whether SkypeIn is safe to use or if we should look elsewhere for our communications needs.

And finally, PLEASE learn a lesson from this: you HAVE to be more responsive, when users call for help. Two weeks and zero reaction is unworthy for both you and your customers.

Dear Wilhelm

I think you owe it to your Danish SkypeIn users to tell them that you are working on this problem

I'm sure there is a way for you to send a message to everybody via our user databases.

I think thta could help to reestablish some credibility and trustworthyness in Skype

Hi, yesterday I got a PM from Wilhem

Hi arlgade,

Thanks for your message- it seems like this issue affects only numbers beginning with +45 36 96 4 XXX.
We are in touch with our local PSTN partner in Denmark to get the situation resolved as soon as possible.
We are sorry for the inconvenience, and we'll get back to you regarding compensation.

Kind regards,
Wilhelm

I just got a PM from another Danish skypein user that his number was working again. I tried our number, and it seems to work again as well.

Thanks Skype for finally fixing it. It's great that Wilhelm is so communicative on the forum and in PM (thank you Wilhelm!) but it is still so very customer unfriendly to NOT respond for weeks to trouble tickets that customers logged through the normal system... Not everybody is searching for information... If I hadn't googled "skype sucks" I probably even wouldn't have known about the existence of this forum. When you have a problem and you want to tell the supplier about it, you do not have the patience to sit down and surf a knowlegde base for hours to see if you can fix the problem yourself, you log a trouble ticket as soon as possible.

I first contacted my internet provider to hear if they changed anything in the firewall etc. and had them do a lot of unnecessary checking, until I decided to log a trouble ticket. I ended up logging 5 tickets, with no answer to date, except for the automatically generated e-mail "we will respond over the next 24-48 hours". NOT !!!!

Remember the impact of bad customer service, as this is giving you a lot of negative publicity/marketing. Word by mouth advertising works, when it's positive, but please do not forget the impact of negative word by mouth, or blogging on the internet or internet forums... The negative publicity will stay there for a long time.

Best regards,
arlgade

Hello again,

The issue that affected the numbers range +45 36 96 4 XXX was resolved yesterday evening by TDC, our local termination partner.

We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by this issue, and will provide the customers affected with compensation vouchers. This will take place starting next week, via email and I ask - yet again - for your patience.

I am also sorry that your experience of customer support has been dismal. While not an excuse, Skype has been experiencing an unexpected high amount of submitted tickets which have caused severe delays in response times. We are dedicated to get response times back to normal as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

Wilhelm

Alvin@cbsys
I've got exact same problem, my Auckland online number is not working from today. Please help!!!!! I'm really loosing biz. Your Skype pls help!!!!
wlundborg
Hi, thank you for your posts,

A configuration error at Telecom New Zealand means that Telecom customers may not be able to call Auckland area online numbers. It is possible to call Auckland area online numbers from other carriers and calling online numbers in other areas from a Telecom connection should continue to work as normal.

Telecom is aware of the problem, and we're working with them to fix it as soon as possible.

Please visit: http://heartbeat.skype.com/ for updated information on the status.

Kind regards,

Wilhelm

Hi SKYPE

Any update on this?

I have a 09 889 XXXX number which is not working. I use this for a work line so this is obviously a problem. Do I need to go back to old technology or is this going to be fixed today?

I see that you are getting a lot of speculation about the reason this has not been sorted yet and it certainly isn't increasing my confidence in Skype as a telecommunications solution...

I am also having an issue with a US Skypein number and getting no replies to any of my several emails. My calls go directly to voicemail after 2 or 3 rings and the Skype software never alerts me to an incoming call.

My employer would like to use Skype internally as well as for outside sales reps, but this is impossible with these incredible failures in customer service and basic functionality (especially Skype-in). I currently administer 9 users all with Skype-in numbers and subscriptions through the business control panel. The addition of the ability to manage subscriptions is a big boost in the attractiveness of the control panel, but it is useless if the numbers don't function properly.

These failures have forced us to begin looking for other solutions. I can't understand how a business can operate this way. You have companies banging at your door to pay for your services and you don't even answer. It appears that there is a need to be filled here by an ambitious entrepreneur.

I feel like I should give an update to possibly help anyone else with this issue or at least to keep the discussion open.

Frustrated with my current situation and coming across a post suggesting logging for Skype and downloaded the files and followed the instructions here https://developer.skype.com/Support/LogFile for Windows. As soon as I performed the step, "Then open Skype, and replicate the bug." My call came through as expected. I have no idea why this would have resolved the problem, but it is currently working.

Does anyone have an idea as to what happened here?

Hi,

Some issues with SkypeIn numbers can be rectified by performing the following procedure to reconfigure your settings:

For Windows users:

Please try the procedure as follows. That causes an effective refresh to Skype's call routing configuration settings.

* Quit Skype

* Delete shared.xml

The box "Speak text" should be unticked.

I hope this will help, let me know if it doesn't.

I had already tried these "fixes" and they had no affect on my issue. I wasn't until I had tried what I previously posted that it worked. And i am very happy to say that it is still working today.

I just bought today the Unlimited IDD Package for 1 Year and it seems like nothing is working.
My online no. doesn't work which was given by skype, and when I dial via skype, it says not enough credit.

It drives me crazy, that I can not talk to someone to get help in this!!!

I have sent least 10 emails to Help desk of Skype. But so far no one replied and solved this problem...

What a easy way to make money nowadays,....

I just bought a 1-year skypein number for my business. well, that was 2 weeks ago when the payment cleared. Still no #, no access, no response from Skype. What gives? Is there no way to contact Skype except through this tedious and extremely unproductive help system. Ever hear of a call center?? And biz wants immediate fixes, it's our $$. Or is all this a rip off.

PS: what's with all this log/relog in? I have had to go through this 4-6 times, asame with email address just to get here!!! lOOKING FOR ANOTHER VENDOR.

The service is unbelievably bad. Its been many days past the 72 hours skype give and I'm still not convinced there is even a skype help team. I have a London skype in number and everytime i phone it i get a message saying "number does not exist." I would like the service i paid for but failing that a refund but it seems impossible to even get an acknowledgement. None of the previous listed fixes have worked for me.

from a very unimpressed customer.
qjg
11 days later and all I got was a lame 'your payment must have been delayed' (it was paid immediately), check again. still no service. still loosing customers. still trying for resolution and refund. still looking to another provider.

has this actually worked for anyone or is this just a big scam???

I have the exact same issue with a US number - in Windows (XP or Vista) the recommendation to delete the shared.xml does not do anything : When you go to Privacy -> Allow Oniine number does not exist . I have ver 4.1

i tried on a MAC OS with 2.8 it works but exiting skype and reloading the preferences for Allow Online Number does not get saved.
