This is my first day, downloaded the rpm client for SuSE, and get nothing. Cannot find the executable with either the GUI or << locate >> or grep.

Where is the executable and what is its name? I am dead in the water. sadsmile.png

Have you tried typing skype in a shell or run dialogue box? You don't need to move to the directory in which it's installed before running it.

the << Skype >> executable is in /usr/bin. I had used a lower case search string. Loading the rpm creates an icon in KDE that can be placed on the panel. Or, you are correct that it can be elicited from the command line.

Now to try and fix the sound system.
