Hi there,

I just want to make sure my usage of Skype for business is fully legitimate ->

My question is basically this:

What is required in setting up Skype for say: our HR department to use for online video interviews?

From the getting started guide we just download the Business version of skype, sign up for a control panel? And then what is required. Is there any extra payments required? Or is it just paying for the NON-computer-to-computer calls you make?

Legally, what are the license restrictions? -> I read through the TOS but it is quite vague in this regard save for the Business Control Panel part.

Could someone please clarifiy.

Thanks very much.

Make sure you have a back-up plan . I have had my account blocked for 21 days with no support , and ever second post is about the same thing ,and when you have no help from ''CUSTOMER SUPPORT '' its just not fair .zr11991

urbisbris - Skype seem to be quite relaxed about how you use their software, though I think there would be problems if you tried to resell it.

On the pro-side their software is pretty easy to use and now handles most PC configurations quite well. It is also free, except where you make calls to external phone systems. I would see no legal reason why your HR department should not use it.

On the con side:
Their support is not very responsive, if something goes wrong you may have to wait several days before getting any kind of response.

General points:
It is helpful to run their software on a fast modern PC. It will run on older PC's, but you might get variable results. Not good if you are trying to impress a potential employee.

A good fast Internet link helps - forget it if you are using dialup modems. If you have an In-house IT department discuss the use of Skype with them before trying to use it on "their" network.

Like most technologies - trial it before making any real commitment.

Pay some attention to sound quality. Using a combination of PC Speakers and the built in microphone of a webcam is asking for trouble. The simplest is to use a "headset", but some people may not like wearing them in an interview situation. I use a Polycom "Communicator" model C100S which is a purpose built conference phone type of attachment, they cost about 70 Pounds ($130) and sit on the desk in front of you.

I also have been waiting weeks for a reply from support about the voice mail accounts that are supposed to come with my 20+ online numbers. Three weeks and counting since I have started sending support requests and posting in the forum. No reply from them at all yet.

Just to add a brief update.

The Polycom C100S which was specifically targeted at the Skype market, does not work with Microsoft Vista. It does work with XP.

There is a beta version of the Polycom software for Vista, but they will not release it outside of the USA. I filled in the "disclaimer" forms they sent me only to be told that the forms are not acceptable from EMEA.

It doesn't look as though Skype have done much to pressure Polycom to fix their software for a product that was marketed as compatible with Skype. Vista has been released for some years now.

The delay by Polycom is inexcusable. I for one will be taking their equipment off my recommendations list.

I have it!! Version 2.9 of the Communicator software complete with Vista Driver. It all works except the microphone volume is very low on both Vista machines that I have installed on. Can send to anyone who will promise to test and feed back.

I have never been able to use my Communicator because I am on Vista. I would be very happy to try the beta.

If you're using Skype to Skype for the video interviews, I don't see why there would be an issue with this. And if you're only placing a few HR people on it, I'm not sure if you need to bother with the business control panel; just let each employee manage their version of Skype (they shouldn't need credits if they're going Skype to Skype). You'll only need the credits (and maybe look into a biz control panel) if you're, for example, making outbound calls or forwarding calls from Skype to a cell phone.

Give a call using the info below if you have any other questions, and if you want to save money and increase customer support with business presence by extending your few employees using Skype out to the full company, check out OnState's Skype PBX and Skype Call Center.

Hi.

Does anyone have the latest software & drivers for the Polycom c100s using Windows Vista? I managed to install the older 2.1 version on my Vista PC but only the speaker works but not the mic.

The Polycom support website is useless unfortunately.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
