Just installed the latest cab file for Pocket PC on windows mobile 6.1 and it works fine, but for some reason it's sending out the audio to the speaker-phone and makes a private conversation impossible. Am I missing something, did I miss a setting or is this normal?

I get exactly the same problem on my HTC Touch Pro.

I think it's not a problem - it's a feature)
I've discussed a lot about this problem on russian forums and haven't found any decision
Tjex
They should at least give us the option and not force it to speaker phone. Why not make it work like a regular phone?

NinoT
Absolutely the most annoying thing about the mobile version. Not only does it make it impossible to have a private conversation, but depending on the environment it may be too noisy to hear the caller - this would not be as much of a problem with the speaker coming through the earpiece.

Make sure you write directly to them as a Support Request in addition to posting here so they can add a "divert sounds to earpiece" checkbox as an option in a future version.

I have exactly the same problem on my HTC.

And I think this is by far the most annoying problem of Skype fro Windows Mobile: it is the only one that should really have been fixed in the last release.
I think it makes the whole thing useless for anything but chat. Because everybody could know that nobody wants to take all their calls on speaker phone and sacrifice their privacy. Any professional checking of the usability of this application would have revealed that.

For those interested, I have a partial work around: I happen to have a bluetooth headset that can also take over the speaker of my HTC, in order to listen to music. So I can also use it with Skype.

In reality this workaround works ONLY when I call, because typically I don't have the headset on all day. So when I am called, the phone starts making a horrible loud noise, causing shock to me and everybody around me, so autoamtic response it to reject the call within a second: VERY annoying. The only thing I can do is call back with my headset.

It makes me wonder: was this application actually tested for usability, with real users, on devices like this?
And, why hasn't it been fixed? It seems easy enough to me.

So most of the time my solution is to not use Skype for Windows Mobile (except occasionally for chat) and use instead call forwarding to my mobile, which makes me pay for this bug in Skype. I guess I have to wait until I paid enough on call forwarding to fund fixing of this issue?

Sorry for this cynical end, but as I have Skype for Windows Mobile since a long time now, I am really disappointed nothing is being done about this.

Exists a program, fixes this bug on E-ten(Glowfish)
Download here
But other platforms still have the problem...
Tjex
I'm surprised this problem has been around for a while. Seems an easy enough problem to get around since a fix is around for E-Ten. What's taking so long to get this fix to the rest of the phones?

Where do I send in a msg to request this change?

I have answered this question at least a 100 times here on the forum but I will to it once more.

Windows Mobile by design doesn't permit 3rd party applications access to the front speaker!

Skype developed an api which needs to be included by the phone manufacturer (OEM) for Skype to be able to use the front speaker. So far only E-TEN was willing to do this. If HTC will be willing we will have front speaker support on HTC phones too, such an update would probably require a ROM update.

Maybe Skype should contact these people:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402463

They have managed to pass the voice away from the speaker-phone to the internal-speaker. If Skype could do this, it would be truly ideal!!!

What they did is a hack of the OS that is why currently they support so few phones. I don't belive this is the right way. And their product is payware because they need to do so much effort to support more and more phones. It can become a support nightmare.

I am using Skype on the new Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 (Windows Mobile 6.1) and the easy way to solve the problem, at least in some way, is using the headset.

The X1 has an ordinary 3,5 mm plug, and plugging in a normal set of headphones, or using the adapter with included microphone works fine. The microphone picks up the sound and the person you're speaking with can only be heard in the headphones.

I am using Skype on my Xperia and have obviously the same problem as u guys.. The "solution" "use headphones" is not an option for me... I never use it.. and like everyone else says.. y cant there b an option to choose which speaker u want??!! seems a little retarded...
best regrds..

I got Skype working on my HTC Wizard without overclocking and perfect sound i.e. no stutters at all. It also uses the phones regular speaker not the loudspeaker. I basically installed the Skype for pocket PC then signed in and set it to auto sign in. Removed Skype and installed the smartphone version.

Some Graphics errors and windows it opens are too large But placing a call with good audio works flawlessly via front speaker.

Out of curiosity I tried exactly what you said and it still comes out of the rear speaker.
Did you do anything else? Are you sure it is the front speaker the sound is comming out of?

A very nice A2DP "Today screen plugin" is available free from www.teksoftco.com it switched all audio to the BT headset and also switches on BT stack. I'm not sure how well the microphone works as I have not been able to test it fully yet due to my 10/20.

I can almost live with the speaker instead of the the earpiece; however, I can't get my mic to work so calls are pointless right now. I'm "using" a Treo 700wx There are no settings in the API to check or un-check for a mute option. Any other ideas?

Skype does not support audio routing to ear speaker.
You can try this little app: AudioRoute http://teksoftco.com/index.php?section=freeware

thx for your answer.
I trayed with AudioRoute 1.2.020 and A2DPToggle 1.1.010 and neither of both work with omnia sadsmile.png

I've found two more similar applications:

Maybe one of them will work

Seems that Samsung uses a different audio routing mechanism. This is the reason why it is so hard to implement audio routing. OEMs make this api's not MS and they need to give access to it.

This is crap, isn't it? A lot of people won't use headsets...

Let's wait for a new version, then.

Same here, even with the new Skype Gold release (Skype file version 3.0.0.256). I have a Samsung Omnia i910. I did find a workaround by using Skype through Fring, which lets the ear-speaker work, but also adds delay (apparently Fring routes through their own server) and makes my voice sound like I'm talking through a pillow. I guess I'd be all set if I could use the Skype standalone for outgoing voice and Skype from within Fring for incoming voice, but I'm sure that would cause conflicts. I even upgraded to a cooked cc20-based ROM and WM6.5, but still having exactly the same issues.

program called audioroute is answer for you.
works great.

Péter, I really hope that you bite the bullet and do whatever needs to be done to enable audio routing at least at the level of the free apps, such as AudioRoute. Skype is an important company. How can it be failing in such a basic way?

I do not think it is SKYPE (or poor ole Peter) fault or issue. If you took the time to read up on this issue from the many posts about it you would know that the issue for the Windows mobile platform is that Microsoft do not make the final drivers for the audio routing. Therefore it leaves the phone manufacturers to write the software to do this part of the phone operation. Therefore they all do it slightly differently from each other. That means that SKYPE can not just implement one version of their software that can possibly cover all the different makes and models of mobile PDA phones.
Don Reba
Finger pointing does not change the fact that other programs can route audio, but not Skype. At the end of the day, it is just an engineering problem, like any other; create an abstract interface for routing and implement the necessary vendor-specific hacks. Don't need to cover all possible phones — just the most common ones.

I have installed yesterday Skype on a Samsung Omnia with Windows Mobile 6.1 and works fine, of course with the same speaker problem. Do you know if Samsung is willing to solve this problem?

And what about the ringing of the entrance calls?
It would be great to hear the ring when I receive an entrance call.
It is some solution for that?

Daniel

found a work around, testing it now.

There are many third party applications that can control the speaker. Why not open access to the api so that enterprising people can hook into it. For instance,I have a program that can change the audio routing on my mogul, but its annoying and I have to do it manually. If the skype api was available,I have no doubt that someone (I might even do it myself if I get frustrated enough) might take care of this.

I just found this thread after reading about the whole speaker issue. I have an HTC Ozone and although I haven't tried using Skype yet to make calls, I'm sure that it will go through the rear speaker as well. However, when I tried to get Audioroute to install on my phone, it gave me a message saying that 'the installation file is not meant for this device'. I downloaded the cab file directly from the phone. Has anyone had this problem? Should I download the CAB file on my PC and then transfer it to the phone perhaps?
