We have checked your caller id issue.
All the time CLI was not displayed to you (4 cases in July) the issue was in the senders side. Meaning that caller ID did not reach Skype systems.

I have the same problem.
We have a toll free number and the toll free number is forwarded to the skypein number.
When we dial the skypein number we get the caller ID, but when we dial the toll free number which is forwarded to the skype in we do not get the caller ID. It displays as "Unknown number 00000"
This is not the problem of the toll free service provider, because I tested this with Vonage and it is able to display the caller ID. (Forwarded the toll free number to Vonage and Vonage phone displayed the ID)
I have tried this with 2 different toll free number. But Still the answer is no.
It will be great If you could help me.
Thanks

Same here. This started happening to me a few days ago. All inbound calls now show, "unknown caller". Even when I added myself as a contact and called my skypeline with my cell. Same thing. This is bad, since I cant add callers to conference calls if they are unknown callers. This happens with cell and land lines What do we do now?????? Skype will surely lose paying customers over this one........

Sorry, no updates. From this forum or Skype's wonderful tech support. I've sent 2 support requests within the past 3 days, no answer from anyone yet.
Another case of "hurry and give us your money and sit there with a nonfunctional product" type deal. I'm not renewing any of my subscriptions. Going with another carrier that you can at least call for support lol.

I have SKYPE-in number. In the past, when I received calls from land lines (in USA) it used to display the caller's number. But not anymore. Now I see incoming calls as UNKNOWN NUMBER in my skype call history.
When my skype is ringing on my computer screen I see:
"Unknown number calling"
This is a huge problem for me too. This needs to be fixed.

We also get a lot of 'Unknown Number' displays. If it's not in our contact list it usually does not display the other person's number. We cannot chose the 'block calls when number is hidden' as an alternative as this could mean blocking calls from family and friends overseas or anyone in the USA who has blocked caller ID, changed their number, are using payphones or sometimes a mobile.
REQUEST: Please add a feature that allows 'Unknown Numbers' to get through when they identify themselves by typing in their number as an alternative option to the current 'Block calls when number is hidden'. Thank you.

Already did. You don't have to ask. I have very low expectations though.
Seems this thread has been here for months. If the problem was going to be fixed, it would have been fixed already. if you want me to be testing and submitting bug reports for your software, you should be paying me - not the other way around.

I have had this problem ever since signing up for SkypeIN 6 months ago.
I guess skype is not ready to permanently fix the problem, but I have a very effective band-aid solution:
Grandcentral. (or another call forwarding service)
When people call me on my SkypeIN line, I get "Unknown Number", but when someone calls me on my Grandcentral number (which forwards to my skype line), I see the callerID.
I would still like to see the problem solved by skype, but using a forwarding number is a great temporary fix.

Jake to fix it we would need to learn exact cases where it fails.
We would need to get time of call and the actual number who called.
This way we could investigate where the caller id got "lost".

please don't post using using such a large font
we are not blind, and it is the equivalent of 'shouting' in uppercase
Skype will display the incoming Caller ID when it receives one but that is not always the case
sometimes the caller deliberately turns it off (to maintain anonymity) and sometimes the carrier that delivers the call simply fails to include it
since you have no indicated whether you have ever answered such calls, it is impossible to determine if these calls fall under the category of abuse
if you simply do not wish to be bothered by such calls, the Skype client has an option you can 'block calls when phone number is hidden'
for version 4.0: Tools|Options|Calls ---> Allow calls from online numbers... ---> choose option
for version 3.8 you can limit incoming calls to only people that are on your Contact List, which has more or less the same effect since unknown numbers won't be in the profile of any of your contacts

Ok, I see that this issue haven't been resolved yet, so hopefully what I will add will help get this issue taken care of. The following issue started occurring with about a week ago, on March 16, 2009, to be more specific. I have a SkypeIn number and I have two separate toll-free numbers that are forwarded to the SkypeIn number. I've had this set-up for about a year now and everything was working fine and all caller IDs were showing as well. About a week ago, all of the sudden, when anyone dials any of the toll-free numbers, my Skype called ID displays "Unknown phone number"; however, if one dials the SkypeIn number directly, I will see their telephone number on the called ID without any problems. I did this test personally. I called the two toll-free numbers from my cell phone and "Unknown phone number" came up on Skype caller ID. However, when I dial my SkypeIn number from my mobile phone, my phone number appeared on SkypeID. I called my toll-free company yesterday and spoke with them for about an hour. They had no idea about what to do regarding an issue like this. This really a big problem from me because customer are calling and I depend on getting their phone number, especially when we get a missed call. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please tell me if you need me to provide you with any other information. Thank you.

I'm not any of the above posters, but I am having a very similar problem, for which I can provide more detail.
I have several clients who use IP Phone systems of different flavors. One uses Avaya IP400 and another uses a system by Intuitive Voice. When these clients call me on my cell directly, their caller ID appears. When they call my SkypeIn number(s), it shows Caller Unknown. If the call is forwarded by Skype to my cell, it still shows as Caller Unknown.
Interestingly, when the client with the Avaya system was at a previous location their CallerID did show on my SkypeIn, but they recently moved and took their phone system with them, and now it doesn't show a number when calling my SkypeIn. They are using the same T1 provider, but not the same circuit of course.
I may be able to provide detailed specifics about these systems if you tell me what to ask.
If it helps, my clients and I are all in the USA.

I've been having the same exact problem since February. All call received show up as Unknown. I am in the US in the 708 area code receiving calls from 630, 708, 773, 814. When the callers can't find me on Skype they then call my cell which displays the caller id info properly. I have not been able to get caller id info displayed from any outside number. I am paying subscriber, so I'm very disappointed that this functionality is not working and that Skype has been aware of the issue for more than a month. I, like many on this post, will be requesting a refund, at least for the months of service were this wouldn't work.

first of all, you would not be entitled to a refund since incoming caller ID is not a paid service and is NEVER guaranteed
secondly, posting your issue here will not resolve it if it is an issue with the gateway provider that handles your SkypeIn number -- the ONLY way to resolve this is to report it to Customer Support, providing all relevant details when you raise a support ticket

I’m working very hard to move the majority of my phoning onto Skype but, as many other people are complaining about here, I’m frequently having fail the caller ID displayed by the Skype software when people call my SkypeIn number, and instead of their number it incorrectly displays “unknown phone number”.
Specifically, after several hours of frustration and testing, I’m finding SkypeIn Caller ID fails seemingly depending on the caller’s phone carrier: for all my calls from SprintPCS & MetroPCS lines & maybe more, it fails. But with T-Mobile at and at least 2 landline services, it works fine.
More specifically, for Skype voice,
1. outgoing caller ID seems to work fine to every phone I’ve seen, but
2. incoming (SkypeIn) caller ID is failing for all my calls from SprintPCS & MetroPCS (which is the majority of my calls in) plus maybe 1 landline: the Skype software incorrectly displays “Unknown phone number” instead of the caller ID which I know is being transmitted by the caller (as it displays fine when calling other phones).
2.1. Where it fails: I’ve tried 1 MetroPCS # (today at 1756pst, 1759, & 1801) and at least 2 SprintPCS #s (for instance, today at 1834pst) --and I’ve specified the Skype ID both with and without the country code (“1”) but no change. Also one probably-landline on Mar19(Thu)0448pst but I don’t know if caller ID was transmitted in this case.
2.2. Where it works: I’ve tried 1 T-Mobile and 3 landlines, and they all work (except 1 of the landlines), but this is the minority of my calls.
So you can look into it, if need be I can give you the phone #s where I’ve experienced this, or perhaps you can just look at my call log (I’ve included the exact time of the calls).
This is serious, as, like many people today, I heavily depend on caller ID, and companies as MetroPCS & definitely SprintPCS represent a significant percentage of all US phones. As suggested, I’m about to post a
http://support.skype.com/?_a=tickets&_m=submit which simply points to this post, plus encourages the answer to be put here for all to benefit from.
What’s the problem & status? Does this fail for just me, or is everyone having this problem? And how to fix? For unless I can get this fixed soon, sadly this problem (and secondly that SMS messaging both ways is also often failing) –this is serious enough to make me look for an alternative to Skype.

I have the same problem. I called myself from my own (Sprint) Cell and also called my Landline (RCN). On the Landline I could see the Sprint CID and on Skype it showed up as unknown. Same when my wife called me from work, it was also shown as unknown number, but when she calls me on the home phone or the cell phone it is shown correctly

I have this exact problem since signing up for Skype more than 6 months ago. 99% of calls come up as blocked. I have tried calling the skype number from land lines, cell phones, vonage phone, voip phone, soft phones and everytime it is the same BLOCKED or UNKNOWN. This is clearly a glitch in the skype system that should be resolved. It is not from the callers side that is for sure. We use vonage and every single call has a caller ID that is displayed.

****This is the Skype support response:
Thank you for contacting Skype Support.
We are sorry to hear that you are having some issues with your caller
identification for incoming calls.
Please note, that caller identification depends on our carrier partners
and may not always be available.
If local provider does not support caller identification, at a
particular time, it will rewrite it to a random one or does not even
display it as the call is coming into your system or device.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
Should you need more assistance, feel free to contact us again; we will
be glad to help.
Best regards,
Rahman
Skype Customer Support
****This was my counter response:
Your answer if false because it is only Skype that shows the number blocked. Furthermore if Skype can't show caller ID from: AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Vonage, VOIP Phone, Sprint and T-Mobile and Verizon Landlines - than the problem is Skype and not the local provider. You should fix your broken service and start reading some of the complaints about lack of caller ID on incoming calls on your forum, it seems a lot of people have this problem.

it is not necessarily the caller's carrier that has the issue, but rather the local carrier that supplies Skype the gateway service by which the pstn call can reach the Skype client
Skype would obviously prefer is all such providers processed Caller ID properly, but it is not always under Skype's control to make it so

I use the same carrier and only see the Unknown Number if the call comes through skype. My land-line sitting here on my desk gets the ID just fine, and from the same 800 service.
None of us have gotten a clear solution to this problem.
Looks like this was woring and then stopped. If you are working on it at least let us know so we have something to look forward to.

like I said, it could be the local carrier that supplies Skype the gateway service by which the pstn calls reach the Skype client -- I wasn't suggesting that this doesn't mean it is Skype's responsibility to follow up on the issue
you shouldn't assume that if it was working in the past, that it will somehow miraculously begin working again in the future
you may be waiting for a very long time if you don't contact customer support with all your details

About 2 weeks ago, most of the incoming calls ceased to list the incoming phone number and only listed the text: "Unknown Phone Number". I have verified several of the callers listed as "Unknown Phone Number" and all are numbers that displayed fine in Skype only a couple weeks ago and all display caller id fine when they contact me on Vonage, my cell phone or my land line. Hi Neil,
This forum thread happens to be the #1 search result on Google for "Skype unknown phone number".
Following everyone's advice, I submitted a support ticket 4 days ago. I've yet to receive anything, not even a customary "We've received your support ticket #12345, and will reply to you as soon as humanly possible."
This forum thread is over a year old, by now, there should be an official stance or response, an FAQ, or something to warn us of said issue. I'm appreciative of all the work the volunteer admins and moderators do around here, since I too help out on forums, but you can't cover up a problem forever.
I really like the savings I have with Skype, but my SkypeIn number becomes useless if I don't know who's calling me.

So the response that I got from support today when asking the question: "This is not yet a feature supported in Skype."
Said it was a feature they were working on for the near future to be patient...
I have used Vonage (and other VOIP services) for years and this seems like the most basic of functionality.

incoming Caller ID has been working fine for me for years, so if you have a problem with it, please report the issue to Customer Support -- there are no settings that affect it
if Customer Support says the feature is not supported, either they did not understand your question or the answer was specific to calls that originate from a very specific source

I'm glad its working for you, but as you can see from the majority of the posts in this thread, its not for the rest of us.
As I mentioned I did contact support. I specifically asked about Caller ID for incoming calls made from land line/mobile or any non-Skype sources. The specific answer I got was this is not a current feature, but that it is in development. As for them not understanding my question, I guess its possible, but I don't know of any other way to ask it. I didn't specify a specific number or carrier, just any non-Skype origin.
