semi-newbie here to linux. it seems my mic is working, however i cannot get it to work on my skype application 2.0.0.68. i have a realtek sound card.
anyone have any suggestions?

You may want to check this thread out, [url="http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=157841"], I had the same problem and my post is what I had to do to fix it. I'm not sure whether it was a Skype issue or PulseAudio issue or apparently not a Fedora issue if Ubuntu seems to have it as well. I've noticed on different forums the same things come up with skype and other distributions and PulseAudio. Let us know if that helps or feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

My mic is 100% working with Skype 2.0.0.72 and Kubuntu 8.04 Hardy, have you tried changing the mic and volumes? In my notebook have to select internal mic from KMix.
