I'm having a problem with skype in that it crashes about 1 second after opening. This problem only appeared after I switched to OSS because ALSA was not working.

When I start skype from the terminal window, I get the following error:

skype: RtAudio/rtaudio-3.0.3/RtAudio.cpp:4000: virtual void RtApiAlsa::initialize(): Assertion `snd_config' failed.

How do I get Skype to work under OSS?

Every so often, right after I boot my computer, Skype will open properly, but still with no sound.
