Where can I still download the old debian package for Skype 1.4. The version 2 has very poor sound quality on my notebook. With Version 1.4 I never had problems. I think that is because my notebook is quite old (CPU Transmeta Crusoe 800 MHz, 240 Mb memory).

Have you tried selecting all the different devices listed in the options panel? Also, what sound card does your laptop have?

I have tried all options for devices. My soundcard is a onboard Realtek AC'97 soundcard.
I think the problem are the hardware
requirements of Skype 2.0
# 1 Ghz processor or faster
# 256 MB RAM.
My
notebook has
# 800 MHz processor (and a Crusoe with 800 MHz is slower than a AMD or Intel with 800 MHz)
# 240 MB RAM

I found and installed skype 1.3. And it really resolved my sound problem.
Here is some more information about my soundcard
Alsa detected my soundcard as
Card: ALI 5451
Chip: SigmaTel STAC9766,67,Silicon Laboratory Si3036,8 rev 7
