Full Version: Outgoing sound gets lost after a few minutes during SkypeOut/PC2PC connections

Hello,

the following problem occurs repeatedly and on every SkypeOut/PC2PC call:
After establishing a call and speaking with my partner a few minutes
(maybe 10 or 20 minutes) the outgoing sound gets lost while I continue to
hear my partner speaking clearly. On cancel this call and establishing a new
one the same effect occurs again, after a few minutes my partner can't hear
me again.

Setup combinations for which the problem below occured:
- Kubuntu Gutsy, Kernel 2.6.22, ALSA 1.0.14 and 1.0.15, Skype 2.0.0.27
- Kubuntu Hardy (latest update state Beta 1), Kernel 2.6.24, ALSA 1.0.16,
Skype 2.0.0.63
-- Connection:
- Cable Internet Download 4096 / Upload 256 kb/s

For comparing, I tried the Twinkle softphone and made a VOIP call over more than
30 minutes without any sound problems using the same equipment and devices:
- Sound In: Using USB microphone from a webcamera LOGITECH QuickCam Fusion,
refresh using UVC drivers
  USB device 0x46d:0x8ca (hw:U0x46d:0x8ca,0)
- Allow Skype to automatically adjust my mixer levels
Thus, the problem isn't much likely located in the UVC drivers used with the built-in USB microphone of the webcam.

BTW: I have another, Intel HD Audio based sound equipment on-board, I haven't tried it to this time with the latest Skype version. Maybe a chance to get outgoing sounds working permanently (?) wondering.png

Did someone experience something similar, and even better, got it resolved?

Yes, I have the exact same problem on gutsy 64 using Philips SPC 1000 NC.
The thing is, every time the microphone/outgoing sound drops, you have to reselect your mic under options / audio. Then it will work again for some time :/

I thought this was caused by the potential flakyiness of using the 64-bit-workaround, but I don't know.

The problem still persists, would someone be so kind as to point me to the apparently obvious solution?

If you run dmesg, do you see the USB being re-initialised during the call? It's possible there is a drop-out on the USB bus that is causing the interface to drop from capturing and not recover.

Also, if you have Skype running from a console, does it output anything when you lose audio?

If you like, you can send us some debug logs. Simply mkdir ~/.Skype/Logs then make a call until it drops out. Then make another call until it drops out, then quit Skype and send us the resulting .log and .trace.txt files so we can analyse them.

These can be posted here, although it would be better to make a bug report on our Jira bugtracking system.

Thanks,
Andy.

Hi Andy,

thanks for Your reply. Sorry for the long time of silence, I haven't watched this topic for a while and I haven't received any e-mail about changes on it.

I still have this problem even in Skype version 2.0.0.72, Kubuntu Hardy 8.04, and I will follow Your instructions to give You some more useful information.

I opened a new issue in the bug tracker for this, including the logs and console outputs of Skype: SCL-390
