Lately when I log on to Skype, for some reason an automatic chat is started to one of my contacts, saying "Are you online?" which I never wrote. Anyway to prevent this? Many thanks

the chat message itself is tagged as if it is from you to that other person?

does it happen when you sign in using a different PC?

does the recipient see this chat pop up at the same time?

The message is sent in my name and the recipient thinks I wrote it, and they get it just like a regular chat conversation eveen though I may not be anywhere near the computer. Its never happened before as I use the same PC.

do you have any programs authorized to access Skype (see Tools|Options|Advanced|Manage other programs' access to Skype)?

and does your friend get the same message repeatedly?

these messages should be logged events at both ends -- have you looked at your History of chats?

very odd...

no i dont have any programs accessing skype and it has only happened to the one person, they dont get the same message repeatedly, just when i log on it starts a coversation
