Suddenly Skype fails to start:
egork@Kubuntu:~$ skype
Aborted (core dumped)

It just shows an empty window, which immediately disappears.

From time to time I run updates with Adept manager, but I am not sure if it happened just after an update or if there was any other change, that could be a cause.
I have skype common and skype installed, but not skype-static.

What could I do to fix it?

I had this - I installed skype-static (which didn't fix the problem immediately) and then followed the advice on here to remove old settings. Skype then started up fine, and even recognised my webcam automatically.
