I felt a bit adventurous and went to buy two webcams to try. Believing that the UVC driver has a future, I bought two UVC-compatible cameras: MS LifeCam NX-6000 and Creative Live! Cam Optia.

The upside: they both really are UVC-compatible as advertised and work. The downside is, that the MS' camera only outputs mjpeg, and does not work with Skype or gstreamer. I did some digging and noticed, that in less than 10 days ago the guys at gstreamer's mailing list started to experiment with NX-6000, but it's far from working yet.

The Creative's camera again worked right out of the box. I tried it first with Camorama, but it failed (actually with both cameras). Lucview again did work with both. Skype also worked at the first try, but having the "start my video automatically when I am in a call" option enabled crashes Skype atleast with the videoecho123. Starting the video manually works.
