Anyone else tried this with a D-Link DBT 120 bluetooth dongle?

I have updated my driver to the latest one, which states that the Widcomm drivers are included (or something like that). I haven't actually got a bluetooth headset at the moment, but will have one soon. But now that things are installed I have the light blue with white bluetooth icon in my tray, but I have a constant pop up error in Win XP (SP2) saying Heading: BT WIZARD. TXT: Incorrect license type.

WHat does this mean? WHat am I doing wrong? Any help or advice would be appriciated.

I am using the Logitech Freedom headset, but I know the problem is due to the driver rather than the headset.

Under the device Bluetooth Audio, there is no advanced options. So theres no way for me to use the Mic Boost. So when I'm using skype, I hear people loud and clear, but they hear me as normal, but certainly not as loud as I hear them.

I tried 6 different widcomm versions and none of them brought up the advance features.

I figured that the bluetooth audio drivers dictates the features available, so I'm hoping if there is anyone who does have the Advance Controls options, can send me their widcomm drivers. Or simply the audio stack so I can update the bluetooth audio drivers to it.

Or if you can simply confirm whether or not this is normal.

Any help is appreciated.

set the mic volume on the skype config.xml file to 255, and tun off Automatic Gain Control, in that same file. It's got nothing to do with your stack or wodcomm versiion.
djklmnop_
Usually if the gain control is affected, you can see skype adjust the volume slider under bluetooth audio's record section.. But that is not happening.

I even tested this out through the Sound properties' Hardware Test and Sound Recorder. The volume doesn't go past 1/4 inch.

I did change the volume to 255 on the xml file, but didn't realize there was a separate AGC. I'll look into that this evening when I get home from work.

Can anyone confirm if they have a the MIC Boost feature under their Bluetooth Audio record section?

Skype appears to be disconnecting my bluetooth headset from the PC at the instant an outgoing phone call is answered.

Motorola H700 headset

Motorola PC850 bluetooth adapter, Broadcomm 4.0.1.2500 driver
(Motorola literature says this headset and adapter both work with Skype)

No Microsoft bluetooth devices apparent in Device Manager, just Motorola/Widcomm

Windows XP SP 2

Skype 2.0.0.97 (just upgraded, but had problem in earlier Skype too)
Skype settings all on Bluetooth audio

No problem pairing or connecting headset to PC adapter, can hear sounds through headset, connection appears to be permanent (listened to 9 minutes of mp3 files), everythings cool except for Skype.

When I dial a Skype call, I can hear the phone ringing through the headset UNTIL the call is answered. The instant the call is answered the headset becomes disconnected from the PC. Skype says the call is connected and the call timer continues to run, so I plugged in a wired speaker and the call was still there.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

In your inital post you said to check and make sure the USB dongle supports "headset" services. I have this adapter:

http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.a...asp?sku=ACB10US

but i'm not sure if it supports headset services. It ships w/ Wicomm drivers, but i don't know how to use the profiles you mentioned, and can't get it working. Will this adapter not work?

thanks - Trevor

I had to write to say thanks for such a great post.
I have skype working with my sony-ericsson HBH-600 works like a charm.
disabling ms driver would have been a nightmare without your help.

Thanks again!

I have the same trouble like dkgerman, Skype kicks the headset out after 1 or 2 seconds. Everything else works great and it sure isn't the dongle.
Any ideas?

I have been trying various combinations of suggestions to eliminate an echo for those that I call. It seems to only occur when I am using a bluetooth headset.

I can make calls and receive calls through Skype to my headset.

I have updated the Realtec audio driver
I have tried both BlueSoleil bluetooth package and avelink BT package
I have looked for option to turn off mixing capabilities (this does not appear as an option under sound controls for BT drivers)
I have done all these things in two different notebook computers, a Sony Vaio FXA47 and an IBM T42

I understand that if others hear the echo and I don't then it must be something on my end, but I need some additional suggestions. Have any?

I've read the entire thread on trying to get a bluetooth headset to work with Skype. I've recently installed a Kensington #33348 (Bluetooth USB Adapter 2.0) and a Jabra BT500 headset. (The marketing-speak on the Kensington website even states, "Bluetooth USB is Skype optimized.") I'm running Windows XP SP2, installed OEM by Dell.

In my System Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Bluetooth Devices tab are two entries: Bluetooth Bus Enumerator and Kensington Bluetooth EDR Dongle. If I look at the drivers for each of these devices I get WIDCOMM 4.0.1.2400, the version supplied on the CD with the dongle, so it appears that the correct drivers are loaded by Win XP.

I can successfully connect to the dongle with the virtual serial port on COM4 and sync my Treo 650 data via that service, but no number of sacrificial goats has successfully gotten my Jabra BT500 to work with the laptop. I can successfully pair it with the Bluetooth adapter, but all I get is a repeating audible tone that is a series of 3 or 4 tones grouped together, with the repeat of the group of tones approximately 5 seconds apart. Neither the Jabra, nor the Kensington documentation describes the meaning of these tones, and neither tech support has been helpful.

For completeness, I can pair the Jabra headset with my Treo 650 and all works fine, but I cannot get it to work properly with the Bluetooth 2.0 Adapter dongle.

Hello all

I am trying to get my Jabra 250 bluetooth headset to work with windows/Skype; I have a ISSC bluetooth USB dongle to connect the headset to the computer (the OS is WinXP+SP2)

I have downloaded and installed the Widcomm 5.0.1.801 drivers (I had BlueSoleil drivers - v1.6 I believe - coming with the ISSC dongle, but they didn't work properly), based on the recommendations from various forums. I managed to pair the Jabra headset with the computer, then the "My audio gateway" service was enabled and connected. I went in the control panel and selected Bluetooth Audio as the default device, both for sound playback and sound recording.

I can now hear sound but the mic does not work. Also:
- when I switch back to "Intel Integrated Audio" for recording, the microphone attached to the computer works
- the microphone from the Jabra 250 works, as I have paired the headset with the mobile and it all works fine.

Any suggestions, ideas?
Thank you

I just bought A motorola headset and USB adapter for use with Skype and I'm having a problem with it. I can hear everything from my computer fine, and skype calls do work, but the person I'm speaking with can not hear me through the headset microphone.

The only way I can get even this to work is if I have the skype settings as so:

Audio In: Logitech Mic (this makes no sense since that is a completely different headset and isn't even plugged in)

Audio Out: Bluetooth high quality audio

If I try to change those settings to anything else, I can't hear my caller or they can't hear me. What gives??? It would be nice if BOTH the earpiece AND the mic worked simultaneously. My little icon is blue with a green B and everything else seems to be working fine... just not the microphone. Am I missing something??
yzzarg_
I own a pair Motorola HT820, my question is, how do I make them understand a call is active? My WIDCOMM-thingy turns green, but I cant use the microphone (it works fine with my Nokia N70 with bluetooth).

I want to either manually start the phone mode but even better would be to get Skype/WIDCOMM to do it for me.

I've read the first page in this thread and also many other forums/threads, havn't found any solutions to this problem.

Also posted some more details about my specific problem here: http://forum.skype.com/viewtopic.php?t=52186 before I noticed this thread. tongueout.png

I finally figured out the problem I was having with using the Jabra BT500 with the Kensington USB 2.0 dongle. It really was pilot error, but neither the documentation nor the customer service from the suppliers was helpful. In fact, Kensington customer service never replied at all.

The problem was simply that the tones I was hearing in the headset were the "ringing" tone notifying that some device wanted to initiate a session with the headset. I simply had to accept the request as if answering a call. Of course, this means that the headset is always active when used as a laptop headset, drawing power more rapidly than in standby, but that's just the way it works.

Sorry to bother the forum with what turns out to be a trivial problem.

I am using a BT headset with my notebook - on board BT, and can pair it, but all I hear is a musical tune. I have turned on BT audio in and out. Can you pl help?
jaiguru42_
I am using a Motorola H300 headset and managed to install a WIDCOMM 5.0.1.802 driver to work with the Dell Integrated Wireless card... Though unfortunately I didn't have the benefit of this forum to figure that out so it took me (I am ashamed to say) several days of near pointless fiddling. The laptop came with the toshiba stack, but the headset was not compatible with that and I eventually uninstalled it.

However, is there any way to get rid of or at least minimize the echo heard by those I call? I am told it is quite terrible and they find being able to hear themselves somewhat disconcerting. It wouldn't be a problem for me except that every conversation I have breaks down into the person I am talking too freaking out about the way they sound over the phone and how high pitched their voice is or something. Terribly boring. I am hoping it is something that can be fixed, though it could be that the compact design of the headset causes the problem.

I know this question was already asked, but perhaps my situation is different. Any suggestions?

Also for heino, I believe somebody already mentioned this, but I am guessing the tone means that the computer is waiting for a response from the device and you should try pressing the multi-function button on the headset when the tone sounds. Assuming you have a multi-funtion button on your headset. I had the same problem, there was no indication that you had to press a button on the device when connecting, how are you supposed to know?

Also (again)! I had a happy fix I wanted to share as well. Just in case any of you are using the Widcomm driver and the permanent "My Bluetooth Places" icon on your desktop is driving you insane, here is how to make it go away to the bad place where annoying permanent icons go:

1. Run regedit. (Thus, Start->Run, type "regedit" in the little box and go.)

2. Find this entry and delete it: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerDesktopNameSpace{6af09ec9-b429-11d4-a1fb-0090960218cb}

3. Restart your machine.

That will be the end of the stupid icon. If you don't trust me (And I wouldn't, I'm clueless.) then run a system restore point first or something.

Have fun!

I'm trying to get the very same model of headset (h300) to work with a new iogears GBU321 (class 1 bluetooth 2.0 usb dongle).

I'm getting the same 'ringing' sound when I have the pc connect to the headset. I've tried lots of combinations of hitting the multi-function button after connecting and everything just causes the headset to disconnect from the pc.

Any more suggestions?

An additional note, regardless of what I enable or disable, whenever I have the PC 'connect' to the headset (and thus the ringing starts), the 'My Bluetooth Device' directory shows that Audio Gateway is connected. Is this what you guys show in there as well? I know this is tricky because headset/audio gateway services mean opposite things depending on whether your PC is using a device, or a device is using your PC.
jmstillwell_
Well I think I've figured out whats going on. But I still don't have a solution. I'll recount my experience so that others can compare it with their experiences.

Whenever I tried to connect my headset to the PC (by clicking the button on the headset) or connect the PC to the headset (using My Bluetooth Places), then they would both disconnect. I noticed that whenever this happened, my bluetooth icon would go green... then red... then white again. And if I had my bluetooth places open then it would display this message in the status bar;

"Your local bluetooth device has stopped"
followed by this message
"Your local bluetooth device is now up"

In otherwords, connecting to the headset crashes bluetooth. I verified this by connecting some other bluetooth devices (logitech mx900 mouse for example) and they work fine, except that when I do the headset connection, and bluetooth crashed, I lose the mx900 connection as well.

I was using the 4.0.1.2101 widcomm software that iogears provided with the gbu321. So instead I got the very latest widcomm drivers (5.1.0.????) from a forum elsewhere and tried those. I still get the same results though. I also tried both driver versions on another host. On the other host, bluetooth crashes when just trying to peer with the headset.

I have stumbled onto this thread, after suceeding to use a Sony BT headset (HBH-610a) on an IBM Thinkpad and NOT SUCCEEDING to do the same on a SONY VAIO laptop.

The difference is I have a "my bluetooth devices" icon on the Thinkpad (so it was easy to activate the headset service) and I DO NOT HAVE a "my bluetooth devices" icon on the VAIO.

From reading this thread i have concluded that I must somehow add Broadcom's "BTW" to my VAIO to get the headset services working. (Why did Sony not preload this????)

Is this correct? And if so, how should I proceed? Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Ok, had a quick scan through the thread, didnt have time or patience to read the whole thing so forgive me if it has been covered already.

I have a HP laptop with built in wireless, It discovers the headset I bought (Its so generic it doesnt even have a brand name), it pairs but i cant hear anything through the headset except a beeping tone... It doesnt do it when its not connected. I cant find the microsoft thing in device manager, only have HP and Bluetooth bus thing... Hmmmm I'm lost...

I have:

Belkin F8T013 Class II v2 + EDR usb dongle (backwards compatible to v1.1 and 1.2 apparently) Belkin Bluetooth Software 4.0.1.4201 with Widcomm driver of the same version.

A motorola HS820 headset

Laptop running Win XP SP2

Without skypeheadset program: Can get to the stage where the headset connects but theres no audio except the two tone beeping...pressing the multifunction button to accept the call only serves to loose the connection to the headset.

With skyeheadset program: The closest ive got to making it work is getting between 1 and 9s of the test call heard on the headset or a few seconds of noise before the audio is lost and/or the headset looses its connection.

Is it a driver problem that i have? Ive emailed Belkin for the latest driver and am waiting for the reply. Or is it an interference or a headset problem that I have? The headset works fine paired to my phone.

Just getting it to work either way would make me a happy bunny...any help would be much appreciated!!!

Hi,
I'm having exactly the same issue. Belkin f8t013 + SE HBH-610a headset.. .no sound is coming out of the headset. Were you able to fix this issue?

Thanks,

Is there are good solution available to get a headset working. I was told in the shop that I could exspect no problems. I have a motorola H500 headset and a Belkin dongle. The best what I can get is 5 seconds off sound out of the headset.
Is this problem only related to Skype or will I find the same problems with other VOIP.

Hi there,

I am having exactly the same problem. I've got an ISSC USB Bluetooth Dongle and a Jabra 250v headset. I have installed Widcomm 5.0.1.1200. I can pair with the device and have both:

bluetooth audio
bluetooth high quality audio

as devices in sound control panel.

The only thing I can get to work is audio out on "bluetooth audio". My microphone on the headset doesn't work for either of these devices in control panel.

Anyone ideas anyone?? please!

I also have the F8T001 and a H500, it's working perfectly. Just follow the instructions on the first page. You can get the drivers for the BT Adapter here

I followed your very comprehensive instructions. Alas no success. I have a Logitech Traveler BT headset. I have tried two different adapters- one with a Toshiba stack (Wacomm) and one with a Widcomm (Belkin F8T013) stack. I have also tried two different PCs. Both have XP service pack 2. With the Toshiba stack I get good earpiece audio but poor microphone quality. With Widcomm stack only intermittent earpiece audio and when I do get this there is a lot of crackling. Microphone does not seem to work. The audio gateway ais disaablednd it makes no difference. It's not trying to use the MS driver. I'm beginning to think the device is faulty.

any hint for me.

Hi All,

I would like to know if anybody was successful in using their bluetooth headset without a dongle and if yes what are the steps to follow.

My computer has BT built-in so I thought I don't need a dongle :!: As it turns out I am able to pair my headset with my computer but I cannot enable the audio service or let Skype (or any other software for that matter) know that I want to use the headset instead of the computer's sound card. As most of you probably have guessed I do not have any of the drivers that apparently come with a dongle. I tried to find some on the internet but was not successful. Actually at this point I have tried just about everything I can think of but nothing seems to work.

I would really appreciate it if anybody has any ideas on how to solve the problem (hopefully without buying a dongle bigsmile.png ).

Thanks,

Hardware:
Sony Vaio VGN-SZ28GP/C
Plantronics Pulsar 590A Stereo Bluetooth Headset

Win XP Pro SP2

Bluetooth:
Toshiba
Hardware driver ver.: 5.0.2129.0
Software “Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba” Ver: 4.00.31(SO)
Bluetooth spec: ver. 2.0, 1.2, 1.1

I just purchased a new Vaio and a Plantronics 590A. The initial hookup (using the express option) the sound from iTunes was great. When I next tried Skype: no mic. I found the solution – or should I say work-around.

The 590A actually provides 2 BT services. The idea behind the product is that you can listen for music (from PC or MP3 player) and the switch to your mobile when it rings. What I wanted was listening to music ++ on PC then switch to Skype.

I found that the stereo headset was listed as a “Audio sink” type device. When I tried to connect using the “custom” option I found two “devices” listed under the BT device “590Plantronics”: Audio sink and Headset. I disconnected the Audio sink device (but kept it paired) and tried to pair with the headset device. This did not work, as the “headset” never asked the PC for the 0000 password.

The solution was to delete the pairing with the Audio sink device and start afresh using the “custom” option and selecting the Headset device type. Skype then worked like a charm and also all other sound from the PC – but it was all in mono. The (cumbersome) work-around is therefore to “delete” the Stereo Audio sink before you pair with the Headset and visa versa.

Hope it helps (someone) cool.png

On a lighter note I can report that Skype works great from an airplane. I travel to Singapore on a regular basis and SIA offers internet access onboard. I can now talk my head off for 7 hours from Sydney to Singapore. Quality is excellent. Bandwidth is very good – typical ping to google.com is about 700.
I have a Motorolla H200 and some BLUETOOTH CLASS 1 Dongle... Im having major troubles trying to connect this. please help!
Actually not a Skype problem.
By this you can see that not even Windows has "found" your BT device.
Windows does not support any audio device and installed the wrong windows drivers.
Please reinstall your BT device.

Keep dongle inserted.
Go to device manager and uninstall your device.
unplug dongle now after uninstalling

Now check for old and/or wrong(ly) installed) drivers.

Right click on "My computer"
Properties
Advanced
Environment Variables
System variables
New
devmgr_show_non present devices
Value = 1
reboot

Right click on "My computer"
Properties
Hardware
Device manager
View
show "hidden devices"
now delete grayed out USB drivers in sector USB and audio
Reboot.
Plug in BT device
windows pops up "new hardware found".
Cancel automatic installing immediately; run manual installation and point to your specific drivers (coming with your BT on CD)
Install even when windows is complaining about "non windows certification" install anyway.
Reboot.
Do test(s) again

If still not working, you will need some more effort to correct.

If your OS is not XP SP2, first check for the latest USB driver.
Do not forget main board drivers.

XP USB Problems sometimes (not all the time) can be solved by deleting that specific USB device.
For other OS I haven’t tried this, but in some strange situations this shall help as well.

1. Please try uninstalling that device via "device manager"

2. If not successful:

Right click on "My computer"
Properties
Advanced
Environment Variables
Add
devmgr show non present devices
Value = 1
reboot

Right click on "My computer"
Properties
Hardware
Device manager
View
show "hidden devices"
now delete greyed out USB drivers

3. If still not successful
Unplug ALL USB cables (do not leave even one)
Goto device manager
Delete ALL USB connections
Reboot.
Reconnect starting with your trouble maker.
If installed correct reconnect the other ones one by one.
Not all together.

4. If still not successful uninstall as advised
Restart machine without all USB devices.
Open regedit
Backup your registry, then goto
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSetEnumUSB
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet00xEnumUSB
X is valid for 1, 2, 3, 4 ...
For ALL of them
Delete
Vid_xxx&Pid-0000 (unknown USB device)
If present

All the other USB devices
Starting with
Vid_xxx&Pid_xxxx
Should be deleted. If not, delete now manually.
Now go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesdelete all entries starting with USB...
If you can not delete, open edit,
Permissions and enable "full permission"
I heard from one user that he found 60 left and wrong usb devices.
If you are not able to delete, you must export the registry,
Edit with any editor like word pad or word, delete those wrong entries and then reimport.
Sorry, I did not find any easier solution for this strange behavior.
Now reconnect the trouble maker FIRST.
When "new hardware found" pops up, please do not let windows install automatically.
Block this and point to your specific USB drivers.
Only after this device is fully installed AND working properly you can reconnect the other devices one by one.

The Skype and other VOIP applications work fine when used with standard wired headset (the one that connects to the sound card).

However, when I try to use my Logitech Bluetooth headset and Safecom USB bluetooth dongle instead of the wired headset I get very bad quality of sound (its OK for first 5-7 seconds and after that there is lots of distortion, stuttering, interruption etc. - I can hardly hear what other person is saying). I've noticed that the disruption is much worse when wave output in volume control is at maximum setting (when at the lowest setting the problem does not go away, but is much less noticeble).

I have used the latest Widcomm and Bluesoleil stacks to no avail (e.g. the same problem with both drivers).

Interestingly, I can listen to mp3 using my Bluetooth headset without any problems or sound distortion. Furthermore, the headset works fine with mobiles.

I'd really appreciate your advice.

Thanks !

Bluetooth bus enumerator which has WIDCOM driver as of 29/8/2005 version 5.0.1.801

and the second entry here is
Broadcpm Bluetooth USB Device (same driver details as the enumerator)

What can i do?

the dongle case said it is ver 1.2
