Hi all,
I'm reading about this subject for a few days now.
I have a i.tech BlueBand stereo BT headset with Headset, Hansfree and A2DP profiles.
I tried different procedures on my IBM Thinkpad T43 with intergrated BT but it doesn't work.
Today I bought a Belkin USB BT dongle FBT008 and connected it to my desktop (HP). Again I did different procedures, but without luck.
The strange thing is that I can pair, but there is a kind of beep sequence coming from the headset every 5 seconds. The PC says I'm connected. But if I go to 'status', I see in the same sequence as the beep in the headset that the headset logo changes from 'headset' to 'connected headset' (the one with the 2 green arrows). After 1 second it returns back to the normal 'headset' logo. I also see that then the send bits are increased every time. received bits will stay 0.
A. Has anybody tried to use a STEREO BT headset before?
B. Has anybody experience with the i.tech BlueBand headset?
C. Anybody heared of the possibility to connect through the A2DP profile with a PC?
Any info will do
Thanks

Long story short; I bought Sitecom CN521 Dongle (USB 2.0 class 1 (100mtrs)) and this did not work great (although quick...). I then started looking around in this forum to figure out what was wrong and got deeper in trouble. Although I happily mentioned earlier it worked (nov 2) and thanked Anders i ended up in mysery after half a day ...
Finally I figured it out after some phoning around and talking to the Sitecom help desk.
My register needed cleaning and then i simply installed Dongle again after that cleaning with the original CDROM software (CN521 is just out since late October 2005) delivered with the dongle. Then connected my old HBH20 blue tooth headset (Ericsson) and a new Jabra BT130. Both worked perfect.
No renaming files and 'getting around' Microsoft blue tooth drivers.
It just works the way it should.
So clean machine and new products have solved this whole stuff.......
I am a happy

Skyper again since this early afternoon and 7 days of on and of fiddling. Hope it stays that way permanently this time around.......
(even skyped out to a mobile phone in Kisumu/Kenya from Holland > it worked great !)

VanStokkom.

I might not have red through all here and additionally I don't know what headset I have ,-)
But the cradle says like my signature. it is some three years old and came with an Ericsson T68. It was such a fuss to use it it fell into oblivion ;-)
Now I realise I might???? use it as a wireless headset. Anyone understanding this. Thanks in advance.
I have an USB dongle that works fine for sync the mobile and OS is XP.
VanStokkom, are you from Stockholm?? ;-) I might have the same headset as you. In a profile it looks like a flying seabird. Lika a swan or something. Could it be the one like yours????

Well I have my IVT Bluesoleil dongle and Logitec BT headset working with skype but the audio quality is pretty awful to be honest.
Any suggestions how to improve audio quality and increase range?
Range is something between 5-10 feet at present

Hi all,
I'm desperately some help sort out this BT thing !!!
I've the Motorola HS805 headset, and the BT dongle from Bluesoleil
I've installed their driver with no issue, no MS driver apparently to remove and the headset is well recognised and paired.
However, no way to get it connected.... when trying, I simply have a message stating :"Windows XP service pack 1 is required to use the headset profile"
Not sure which pack i have.... actually system is stating windows XP version 5.1... and I'm proceeding with updates on regular basis...
any idea of what i could do to solve the issue ?
Thanks for any help !

yakumo usb dongle class 1 + logitech freedom headset can not work properly together on winxp sp2.
I have everything configured properly but have this problem each time the connection between the pc and the headset is established and can only last for about 1 minute then it is cut off automatically.
I have been working on it for 2 days and can not find why this could happen.
Does anybody here have similar problem?

(Edited 10th of September 2005)
I have bought a Logitech Bluetooth Headset Pro (HS01) and an X-Micro Bluetooth dongle for my PC - AND IT WORKS GREAT!
Getting there was however quite troublesome with a lot of "trial and error", but once you know the tricks, it takes less than ½ hour to set it up, so I would like to share my experiences with you. This is how to go ahead under XP SP2 (at your own risk):
1) Buy a Bluetooth version 1.1 or version 1.2 dongle with Class 1 reach ("up to 100 meters"). The brand of the dongle is not important (as long as it is not Sony Vaio!), but it is very important to check the specs of the dongle to make sure it supports "headset" services. You should go for Bluetooth version 1.2 if possible, as it has better headset support and is less susceptible to WLAN interference.
My dongle uses the Widcomm drivers and as far as I know, all Widcom drivers from version 1.4.2.10 and up support headsets. Alternative drivers are from BlueSoleil, but I don't know much about them (search the Forum for tips on BlueSoleil!).
2) Download latest drivers for the dongle from the producers' website (if avaliable).
3) Make an XP back-up point (just to be sure).
4) Install the dongle using the latest drivers for your dongle according to the manual and then reboot. In most cases, Bluetooth is NOT working correctly now - the Widcomm Bluetooth "B" icon in the system tray (lower right of your screen) is red. You might also see a white and light blue "B" icon, but that is the Microsoft Bluetooth (bad!).

This is how your Bluetooth icon should look when you have completed the steps below - compare with the MS Bluetooth icon:

This is the Microsoft Bluetooth icon - follow the steps below to disable.

The Widcomm Bluetooth icon is red when the Widcomm driver needs a manual update (follow the steps below).
Added note September 2005: Many Bluetooth dongle producers are now aware of the troubles with Microsoft drivers and have added functions in the drivers that do automatically disable the MS BT drivers, so you might be lucky that everything works fine (white non-MS BT icon) right after installing the drivers. If not continue to the next step!
5) Go through "Start" > "Settings" > "Control Panel" > "System" > "Hardware" > "Device manager" and then expand "Bluetooth devices". You will most probably see two different Bluetooth drivers - one from Microsoft and a "Generic" or "CSR" (or other) driver.
6) Disable the Microsoft driver - DO NOT remove! This is the problem with XP SP2 - Microsoft Bluetooth drivers will allways be installed and will override Widcomm drivers, but they have no support for headsets! If you remove the driver, it will reinstall again if/when the dongle is reconnected, so do only disable. Hopefully one day soon MS drivers will support and work with headsets and the Bluetooth headsets will finally just be "plug and play"...
An ALTERNATIVE step 6 (more complicated but technically better) is posted by Kevoh92 in this thread: http://forum.skype.com/viewtopic.php?t=14646
7) Right-click on the "non-MS" Bluetooth driver and choose "Update driver...". Click along in order to get to where you can manually select the driver for your dongle (the "Have disk..." option). Point to the file called "btwusb.inf" on CD or in downladed driver files and update with this driver. Reboot only if necessary. Bluetooth "B" icon in your system tray should be white now - if that is the case, then non-MS Bluetoth is now working on your PC and you're half-way through!
This is how your Bluetooth icon should look - now you're ready to play!
Note: The Microsoft Bluetooth icon will always remain visible in the control panel (root directory), but that is no problem!
8 ) Activate Bluetooth on your PC and pair with your headset according to the manual (quite simple but it takes a few steps). Experience shows that it is a good idea not to activate the "audio gateway" profile, but only the "headset" profile. If you know that you need other profiles for e.g. file sharing over BT or other stuff, then do activate those profiles, but keeping it to a minimum will surely minimize the risk of setup errors!
9) Close Skype completely, restart Skype and then choose "Bluetooth Audio" as sound input and output in Skype.
10) Connect your headset from the PC (Right-click on BT icon on the lower right of the screen, choose "Fast connection" > "Headset" and then choose your headset). Receive the incoming call on the headset itself (press "accept call" button when you hear a repeating sound in the headset). If the Bluetooth "B" in the system tray goes green, you're nearly there! Your headset is now in "call" mode so it does consume battery at the highest rate (my Logitech still has power for 6 hours in this state). All audio on your PC now goes through the headset.
11) Make a test call to Skype profile "echo123" and do a test recording.
12) If your hear audio and your own recorded testcall, you're done! CONGRATULATIONS!
____________________________________________________________________
13) If you hear the nice lady, but not your own test call (or just noise), then it is most probably because you do not have the latest Bluetooth driver installed. If you hear nothing at all, check carefully if you did all of the above once again - or you might not have a Bluetooth 1.1 dongle (in that case - bad luck!).
14) Did you download the latest driver from the producer of your dongle? If not, do so and go to step 16. Widcomm 1.4.2.10 does sometimes work fine, but you're better off, if you can get a Widcom 1.4.3 or 3.0.1.xxx driver.
Added note September 2005: Widcomm Bluetooth drivers used to be available from many Blutooth dongle producer's websites, but because a lot of people cross-downloaded drivers from other producers' websites, it is now nearly impossible to find BT drivers on the web which are not locked to the producers own dongles (through MAC address) or in other ways password protected. It is therefore important that you buy the rigt dongle (see step 1) in the first place!
16) When you have found a more recent Blutooth driver then unzip/unpack the files in a re-findable directory (do not run any install.exe or other exe-files in the unzipped folder). Then repeat steps 7 to 12 and you should be up and running!
____________________________________________________________________
With my headset and class 1 dongle, my whole house is covered with a fairly good sound quality (sort of like a cellular phone). Even with 15 meters to the dongle and a 15 cm concrete wall in between, a conversation is by all means possible. What a great addition to Skype!!!
However, DO NOT expect the crisp Skype quality that you are used to using a wired headset - most BT headset users are slightly dissappointed with the sound quality! Sound quality seems to depend a lot on the driver and on the headset.
Only downside - you have to repeat step 10 above (only) before I start using the Bluetooth headset after each reboot of my PC, but I can then use it for any number of consecutive calls (until battery runs out after 6 hours!). Alternatively, you can buy "SkypeHeadset" (www.skypeheadset.co.uk) for 10 GDP / 15 EUR / 20 USD and then your BT headset will connect automatically at each call. I use it and it works well on my PC, despite some driver problems with my Nokia PC Suite...
A tip: Shut down your BT headset using the on/off button on the headset before shutting down you PC - in that way all sound settings are set back to default on your PC instead of all sound getting directed to the BT headset.
I believe that the above procedure will work for most headsets and Bluetooth 1.1 dongles.
[b]If you use my tips and it does not work, please post in this thread in order to get the problem-solving concentrated here. Once your problems solved, please post again to confirm. In that way, we'll get a little smarter every day
Just wanted to share this great experience!!!

Your instructions were perfact. I have been able to connect my Billionton class 1 dongle with Jabra 250 Bluetooth headphones.

hi experts,
thx a lot 4 sharing all your information/knowledge here!
I got some questions for U:
What's the problem with sony vaio notebooks - is there any clash with WiFi possible?
I tried the things AMP mentioned, but i just got a driver cd for the USB PC Adapter, but the BTW Sign is still RED
Where can I download the most up-to-date drivers for Motorola: H500 & USB PC Adapter 800 ?
What's the Widcomm software? is it free shareware - if yes where can i get it?
Do I need SkypeHeadset? Is it more comfortable?
Well, guys as U can see I'm not really into that topic, but would be a great honor for me to hear some advices/answer from you!

Hmm.. would this work with other programs than Skype? I am using a SIP voip solution from Callthai.net.
Is it possible to make all audio on pc go to pc/from pc with this solution? If this is the case.. it should work with any program, right?

Other than Skype, I have tried it with Winamp 5.12 and it works. I think if you have a way to change the audio gateway you should have no difficulty with any audio.

I just installed the Bluetooth driver on a ThinkPad T40p.
Hardware: Cabridge Silicon Radio
Firmwareversion: Version 546
HCl version: Bluetooth HCl 1.1
HCl revision: 0222
LMP version: Bluetooth LMP 1.1
LMP subversion: 0222
Driver: WIDCOMM 1.4.3.4
OS: XP SP2
Headset: Jabra BT500
In Skype, I changed sound in and sound out to Bluetooth device. Computer has been restarted.
The computer recognized and connects to the Jabra headset very well. Thanks to Anders for a great guide. It got me that far
Only problem:
I can't hear (or say) anything in Skype using the headset.
What can possibly be wrong :?: It appears to me that the driver and the Bluetooth version is OK. No MS driver, either (only "IBM Integrated Bluetooth II").

first of all thank you for the detailed instruction. They were working perfectly
But: When the headset is active my screen keeps refreshing at the same interval as the headset binks? Has anyone the same problem? I would be greatful for any hint.

P.S. The only active BT-Profile is Headset. There are a dozen other installed which I may activate manually

Hi,
I use M2500 for arround a year, I bought really cheap BT dongle "Bluetooth USB Adapter" with no manufacturer on it, but with Bluesoleil CD attached.
It has the following specifications: BTv1.2 compl. USB 2.0 compl. 0-100m (BT class2), W2k/XP support.
In W2k + SP4 there is no MS BT (I guess...) so I started with Bluesoleil. It installed, found my Nokia 6310i and M2500, I paired it, answer the "incomming sound" from the headset, get connected, but no mic/audio is running (I configured Skype of koz

(
BTW: I could send a vCard to the Nokia...)
I tried to switch to WIDCOMM, I did it using Device Manager, and tried to install "Skypeheadsettrial" - it says "Sorry, we are unable to detect the Widcomm Bluetooth drivers on your PC. Setup cannot continue."
As I read all this post - the question is: will it work with Win2k or should I upgrade to XP? If W2k is fine - how can I check if the dongle has "headset" functionality (BlueSoleil indicates it has it)?
What does it REALLY mean "BT V1.2 compliant" - isn't it a marketing for downward compatibile BT 1.0 or 1.1 device?

Skype approved BT and dongle : so a bit miffed that quality poor.

Any ideas much appreciated.

I found Anders guidance and amazing dedication to his trial & error journey a worthy and admirable contribution...
I for one uses two Jabra 250's, one without and the other with the trill function simultaneously.
I use it almost 8 hours a day...yes, have both on my ears for that long the whole day... even when I'm out of the car... and so when I get behind my laptop or Pc in the different homes, I had about enough of using that BT from Jabra...LoL.
I'm in search now for a Sennheiser that also plugs in (with the aid of an adaptor) when I'm on board the plane. Any tips would be welcome.
I might even give you a gift that you can use to buy your fancy hardwares on the internet...
Have a great year and A Happy New Year to all and you especially, Anders!

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-T350 notebook computer, and a DR-BT1 Bluetooth Earset. It seems like a winning match... They recognize each other javascript:emoticon('')
Laughing, and I entered the code "0000" into my pc, which it holds now. But I don't hear sound through it, and can't prove that my voice is passing through to the PC. I tried calling on Skype, but the sound came through the computer's own speakers, not through the earset. It's my first time of owning an earset/headset of any sort. I've never used one even on a phone.
The quote above from an earlier post put some fear in me. I bought both the laptop and the earset from Sony to ensure compatibility.
Has anyone had success with this combination?
Here's a followup/conclusion on my previous post. Teh Sony Vaio VGN-T Series (VGN-T350P in my case), do have bluetooth but it does not include telephone headsets in its 'bluespace'. Also, the Sony Headset DR-BT1 is not for computers, it's for cell phones. So I'll be returning the headset.
So it looks like I'll need a dongle to use Bluetooth on my headset. My pc's bluetooth does work for the mouse. So with the shakyness of the bluetooth protocol skip Bluetooth altogether and get a headset that has a proprietary but matching dongle/headset (to avoid conflicts with the internal Bluetooth that drives the mouse, and to guarantee an always-on pairing).

For everybody for who did'nt work all the good advices of AMP
I did it a bit difference, because every time the standerd bluetooth installation files came back also after the renaming of the bth.inf file
I made in the windows inf dir a new dir nl tmpbth and placed all the bth inf files in there (bth*.*).
I went to the system hardware profile, deleted the installed drivers and started the installation of the deliverd drivers with my bluetooth dongle,
this worked for me, now there was no new hardware found by the system and my drivers were installed and I could use my headset!
succes!! for anybody who expereenced the same problems.goodluck.
p.s. the dongle is an sitecom CN-500

Thanks AMP, got it working with the following setup
XP SP2
Jabra BT250v
Belkin F8T003_v2
Broadcom (widcomm) v5.0.1.1200 drivers
Everything connected fine, and I was able to do the skype test call and leave a message.
Then I disconnected the headset and unplugged the dongle. I left the computer on and charged the jabra.
When I came back and connected the headset again it was going fine for a couple of minutes but then (without me doing anything) the jabra beeped and the headset became disconnected.
Now whenever I reconnect the headset the volume is very low, and the microphone doesn't work at all.
Even with all volume controls set to max on the PC it is difficult to hear anything through the earpiece, in any application not just skype.
The jabra still works fine with my mobile phone, volume and microphone are ok there.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
---------------------------
Update: I dumped the belkin device and bought a CNet CBD220 which comes with BlueSoleil software. The Jabra now works perfectly and has good sound quality.

Hello anyone:
I've read your thread with great interest, however, I'm still not making any progress with my situation.
Please review the below background information and provide any advise. Thanks.
Situation:
I recently bought a bluetooth Plantronics 640 headset with the intention of using on Skype from my Toshiba Satellite Tablet PC, running Windows XP SP2. According to the documentation this is a bluetooth ver 1.2 device.
I had bought second hand a Belkin bluetooth USB adapter (without any software). The online documentation says this is a bluetooth ver. 1.1 device.
On my Tablet PC, both devices pair ok and the 640 Plantronics shows up in the devices list. Two bluetooth radio show up in Device Manager (The Belkin and the Microsoft).
In Audio settings the device that shows up is SoundMAX Digital Audio.
I've tried the suggestion of disabling the Microsoft radio. That didn't work.
I've tried installing the Toshiba software mentioned but it gets to the section where it's asking me to insert bluetooth device. I've inserted the Belkin adapter and it doesn't move on from there. It just goes in a loop on the prompting.
I don't know what else to try! Any help or advise?
Do I need a new adapter? Does a ver 1.2 device work with a ver 1.1 device?
Regards!

if you have an f8t008 or 9 (model number on the back), go to
http://www.belkin.com/support/download.asp...09&lang=1&mode= and download the
driver for windows xp
install it all and make sure it goes in okay, do a restart, and then follow the instructions through
if the toshiba software keeps interfering, get rid of it, and deavtivate the microsoft software, then youll be able to follow the instructions and you should be fine

Hi!
I just got a Tecom BT dongle (http://www.tecomproduct.com/BT3034.htm). The MS drivers seem to have been disabled by the Tecom setup but I still have something called "Bluetooth Enumerator" in Device Manager below the Tecom drivers. Is this normal?

I have:
Belkin F8T013 Class II v2 + EDR usb dongle (backwards compatible to v1.1 and 1.2 apparently) Belkin Bluetooth Software 4.0.1.4201 with Widcomm driver of the same version.
A motorola HS820 headset
Laptop running Win XP SP2
Without skypeheadset program: Can get to the stage where the headset connects but theres no audio except the two tone beeping...pressing the multifunction button to accept the call only serves to loose the connection to the headset.
With skyeheadset program: The closest ive got to making it work is getting between 1 and 9s of the test call heard on the headset or a few seconds of noise before the audio is lost and/or the headset looses its connection.
Is it a driver problem that i have? Ive emailed Belkin for the latest driver and am waiting for the reply. Or is it an interference or a headset problem that I have? The headset works fine paired to my phone.
Just getting it to work either way would make me a happy bunny...any help would be much appreciated!!!

I tried to work according to this "cook book" but i can't install any other driver than ISSC.
The Widcomm application does not recognize the ISSC driver.
The BlueSoliel application recognizes the driver, display a headset profile, but I can't hear anything on the headset, and the micrphone doesn't work either.

The brand of the dongle is not important (as long as it is not Sony Vaio!), but it is very important to check the specs of the dongle to make sure it supports "headset" services.
Hi Anders,
I have been pointed to this article by rocketman in another post I made earlier today.
I have been having difficulty with my bluetooth headset HBH-65 on a Sony vaio laptop. From your quote above do you mean a) don't buy a sony dongle or b) any dongle will not work in a sony vaio laptop?
I have SP2 and a Sony Vaio and Sony's website say that bluetooth headsets don't work in SP2. Now I'm wondering if they just mean the bluetooth thats built in doesnt work. Maybe if I buy a dongle it will. BUT if you are saying from the start that no sony vaios will work with bluetooth headsets I might as well give up now!
LOL, hope that makes sense!
Regards..

I found the instructions on this site worked for me perfectly.
It gives you widcomm 4.0
it works for CSR devices...even very old ones.
the patches are what make it work.
follow the link...
http://brobin111.blogspot.com/2005/02/maki...-work-with.html
Now i can use my bt headset to do everything you can on regular headphones except listen to stereo sound.
the other instructions are clearly very subjective depending on what device / headset you have.
version 4.0 works perfectly.
Hint for logitech mobile pro headset users....
After pairing you will hear pair tone. remember to press the standby button to complete process otherwise you will not hear anything thru your headset other than the pairing success tone.
happy bluetoothing
skype/YM/MSN messenger all work with this method.
but credit to the dude that supplied the info.

Hi. I hate to stir things up around here, but this might be interesting for people with ISSC dongles (the majority of newly sold little dongles are ISSC). And maybe to everyone else as well. Bluesoleil got a new version released yesterday, which includes a skype plug-in that allows you to answer skype calls with the bluetooth headset. Isn't that the answer to all of our prayers? I had always hated bluesoleil prior to version 2 because the sound quality was awful, but i recently bought an ISSC dongle and had to switch from good ol' widcomm. Now this version came out, it's a whole lot easier to install (no need for patches or manual driver selecting), sounds great, and has this new skype integrated feature. The downside is, of course, that for CSR dongles it has a 5MB transfer limit (maybe it can be fixed with license files or patches?).
I don't know how it works with other kinds of dongles or for internal bluetooth chips. for those willing to try it, go to
http://www.bluesoleil.com/download/index.a...bluesoleil_voip. Now that I read it again if you don't have a "licensed" dongle, you can buy the bluesoleil software for (presumably) almost any dongle. I'd of course suggest to try out the free version to see if it works first. But the paid version is 14,99 euros and I got my ISSC dongle for 10 euros, so maybe it's better to just buy a dongle compatible with the free version. Let me know if this has helped!

I guys
I have a bluetooth dongle from IVT Blue Soleil. After reading the article I tried giving it a go with my motorola v3 acting as a skype phone, in pratice it should work, however I got stuck when I couldnt forcefully talk into the phone. How do i get around this, skype was detecting my blutooth advice, and changed the settings in sound devices on control panel, if anyone could help, be very much appreciated

no, you cannot use your phone as a BT microphone/speaker for your computer. The reason is that it lacks the headset service. So, im sorry, but you'll have to buy a headset
It'd be great if phones could do that, tho (hint hint to phone manufacturers)
