Hi,

I just have a question. First off I use PCLinuxOS as my main system, and have no problems running skype under KDE.
I have as of late, returned to my playground of fluxbox, and found that skype freezes the system (specifically when I start a chat) and I have to hard boot. THe research I have done seems to point to a older problem between fluxbox 1.0 and older skype software, giving me the impression that someone was attempting to solve the problem (Qt4?).

Being that I am new to skype I don't know if this is a returning bug, happening with the beta release, or if it was something that was never solved (the posts were from 2007 and before).

Anywho, If anybody might know where I can find such info, and if I just need to wait (I can use KDE for work but in the future I would like to use flux, as I just like looking at my own configuration right down to the hand-crafted window decorations tongueout.png) and I hope to find a fix for this issue (if it even is an issue)), or point me in the right direction.

On a side note, I am really happy there is a linux port. Keep up the good linux work, your community is the most important part of your business.

thanks and be well,
benjamin

I have no issues running Skype 2.0 beta with fluxbox 1.0.0 on Ubuntu 7.10. Anything requiring a hard boot is much more likely to be a video card or driver issue than a window manager issue.

*fresh install, fully updated, using kernel 2.6.22.10.tex1 (possible issue, testing kernel had my sound support)
acer aspire 3680*

I just fired up skype and when pushing the chat button the computer locks except the mouse (clicking things does nothing), no keyboard. same as last time.

If it was video, wouldn't I see some issues with other programs?

Also, as I said before this doesn't happen with KDE, so could it be a missing driver that isn't loaded when fluxbox is loaded ?

Hmmmm, an adventure....... I shall get my helmet and shovel

thanks

There is (or at least used to be) a strange issue between Fluxbox and Qt to do with how windows appeared and were hidden. This would happen when opening a chat under Fluxbox previously.

I don't have the latest on this issue, but all I can suggest at this time would be to upgrade to the latest Qt 4.3 release and see how you go.

Thanks,
Andy.

Hi Andy,

thanks for a swift reply. it looks like I have the latest QT4 modules (4.3.1pclos2007), but alas the problem is persistent.

I am open to ideas, lol.

thanks for all your help

Hmm, 4.3.1 is buggy in itself (it has an issue with window resizing on video calls). However I'm not sure if this version is patched.

I believe they're up to 4.3.3 now. I don't have any other suggestions at the moment I'm afraid sadsmile.png
