Using Skype 3.6.0.244 on Windows XP PRO with SP2.

Has been installed for a few years with no problems.
Installed Yugma Skype and RemoteX, and then found that all the characters on the main menu and drop down menus are like the wrong font. Just small rectangular characters. Contact info is legible, only problem is on the Menu options, but it makes it unusable.

I removed Yugma and RemoteX extras. No change.
I reinstalled Skype over existing version, no change.
System has been rebooted in between above changes, still have the problem.

And the fix is .......... ???????

Exit Skype
Start
Run
Type: %appdata%
delete folder "Skype".
Re-run Skype and log in with your data.

Note:
You will need your password to re-log on, and re-set any options from default

Thanks for the suggestion Adam.

At first glance, it looked OK. The Main Menu and drop down menus are now good.

But now I see that the icon descriptions for Extras still have the "bad characters". the icons are good, the numbers are good, but the descriptions are square blocks.

It is only the Extras that is bad, the icon descriptions, and some of the content on Extras that are available.

Is there an XML file that needs to be edited?

Re the original problem .... any idea about the cause of the problem?
Do you think that was caused be either of the Extras that I installed?
Re deleting the entire folder, did it only require editing/replacing a few files, but deleting the folder was faster?

Thanks for your help.

Hi sensiblesolutions, I'm part of the RemoteX team.

We haven't seen this with RemoteX before, but is it possible that Skype is trying to display characters that you don't have the language pack for? Perhaps Yugma changed the default Skype language? Yugma seems to be based in the U.S., though, so this is just a wild guess.

I'm not sure is this is linked to RemoteX, but we can have our engineers look into it.

You might check our FAQ page: www.remotecall.com/remotex/FAQ.asp

Hi !
I used RemoteX to help friends with their software problems. It was a great help. But now I upgraded Skype to version 3.8.0.80 and to my disappointment I could no longer find RemoteX among the Extras. I wonder why it is no longer in the list of extras. But from this discussion I assume, that it is still used, or maybe got another name. I'd be very thankful for some info where I can find RemoteX or a similar extra in Skype.
