CoSiMo
Hello everyone.
In ubuntu forums, we're pretty excited about this new beta and personally I really want to say thank you to the skype developers for this long awaited 2.x series.

We're creating a wiki with the compatibility status of many webcams in Ubuntu.

The topic in ubuntuforums is this: Ubuntuforums

And the Skype Webcams Wiki is here: Wiki

In my case, this Logitech Quickcam express just get a black image:
CODE
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 046d:0870 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Express

But is perfectly working with Flash webcam plugin in Ubuntu Gutsy.
CoSiMo
This is my video driver by the way:

CODE
lsmod | grep videodev
videodev               29312  1 quickcam
v4l2_common            18432  1 videodev
v4l1_compat            15364  1 videodev

Hi -- compatibility issues are more complicated than just webcam driver. If you can't see your video, it could be because of 64-bit ioctl issues (which we're investigating) or Xvideo issues on your graphics card also.

Andy.

Thank for your answer.

But I'm using Ubuntu Gutsy 32 bits

Hi -- compatibility issues are more complicated than just webcam driver. If you can't see your video, it could be because of 64-bit ioctl issues (which we're investigating) or Xvideo issues on your graphics card also.

Andy.

I had say that in the another tread: the bug-search would be a lot of easier, if we have debug logs.
And I would like to ask the Skype Team, to make a version with a debug log output, that can help us. It would also help the Skype developers to find out the bugs, if more people are work on it.

Thanks...

vorcers: You can debug video by activating kernel logging, as many people here have done already. Anything that you can debug can be debugged already using public means. Knowing debug information about internal Skype workings won't aid you, since you don't have the source code to Skype anyway.

Having said that, we can introduce some extra (public) logging of mode changes Skype is attempting to do and things like this, to guide you. But I can't say for sure when/if this will happen.

Andy.
vorcers
thanks andy for your replay.

I don't want to know the intern skype processes, I want only to know WHY something doesn't work, and that would help to fix some problems (like the video) very much, and I would be pleased if skype would create public error logs.
It could also relieve the skype support team.

I'm looking forward to of some new log functions, if they will realize.

The iSight camera used in the new Apple Macbooks do not seem to work in Skype for Linux... Although I also have a problem with sound, so I can't place calls. Tested in Options -> Video devices -> test: got a black screen.

Just type "dmesg" in a shell. If you something to similar to this
ioctl32(skype:2494): Unknown cmd fd(19) cmd(80685600){t:'V';sz:104} arg(f4f92f58) on /dev/v4l/video0
ioctl32(skype:2494): Unknown cmd fd(19) cmd(803c7601){t:'v';sz:60} arg(f4f92eb4) on /dev/v4l/video0
you have to upgrade your gspca version. I just upgraded from gspca-20070110 to gspca-20070508 and the problem went away. I'm not sure what Ubuntu 7.10 is shipping but should be the most recent.
