This forum topic proves that Skype developpers take the video development very serious. Another piece of positive news!

My video card is an ATI Radeon 9600, and actually i'm using fglrx driver (8.42.3)

Too bad UVC isn't that functional yet, it's probably going to do the same what USB-storage/picture bridge did on digital cameras. I'm currently using Quickcam messenger, and the driver can only use the uncompressed ~ 320x200 mode and the quality isn't that good...

Finally some good survey! What I'm using is:
- driver gspca ( Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX & Logitech Quickcam for notebooks Deluxe )
- Video card ( nVidia 7600GS and Intel 945 )
Are we closer to get video in Skype for Linux?
Have a nice day all.

I am very surprised (and disheartened) by only 42 responses for the camera and video drivers in use for Linux. I have used Ubuntu on my laptop for the past three releases and Fedora before that. I need to keep a Windows PC to talk (with video) to my daughter (new Mac laptop) in college. Skype is the very last application for which I need to keep Windows in my house. I would purchase any USB camera when this finally gets completed and released. If beta testers are needed-- sign me up.

Hi -- the lack of responses is likely due to us just creating this survey today

Video is due shortly, just wanted to know what to focus on for the future, and also what issues we need to make people aware of on the initial release (driver-specific issues, workarounds, etc).
Enjoy!

i've got a logitech live! cam video im pro which has a chip from the m560x family, it is not yet supported by the m560x-driver, but it should be in a while. i used to have a logitech camera that was supported by the gspca driver, but it broke, so i got my current webcam from a friend who didn't use it anymore as his new laptop has a built-in one.
i hope the guys doing the m560x driver will add support for it soon, i already checked whether just adding the device id to the driver would work... it would detect the camera correctly, but can't extract an image from it, so i guess i'll have to wait
edit: btw, my graphics card is a geforce 6800 gt

I am using a pretty ancient Logitech ClickSmart 310 webcam, and I don't really know which device driver I would use.
As for a comment, I would highly recommend that Skype team to strongly consider making video calling compatible with the new ultraportable Asus EEE. With impending millions of EEE sold and the immense popularity gaining in Asia as well as in everywhere else, it really makes sense to include this market into your target audience! (You guys will be making so much contribution and having that pride in delivering video calling to millions of people!) As for business, it makes sense for you guys to expand your market to more people who have never used Skype!
For one, I will be getting an EEE as soon as I get my paycheck and counting on you guys to bring me video calling to that powerful mini-computer in the near future.
Thanks and good luck!

I am using a cheap Mustek Wcam 300A that works with gspca driver. I am running Skype on both Linux Mint Daryna (direct derivative of Gutsy) and PCLinuxOS 2007. No issues with it.
As for the new EEEPC I am looking forward to have one.

Well, I casted just one vote but I am a great user of webcams and Linux so I should need 3 more votes. Indeed I use:
- 1 Logitech QuickCam Ultra Vision (uvcvideo) on a workstation 64bit AMDFedora 7 and ATI (closed) driver
- 1 Logitech QuickCam Ultra Vision (uvcvideo) on a workstation 64bit Intel Dual Core Fedora 7 and NVidia (closed) driver
- 1 Logitech Notebook Pro (pwc) on a laptop Intel Single Core Fedora 7 and Intel i915 driver
- 1 PhilipsTouchcam Pro 740k on a laptop with an old pentium at 233MHz Ubunto Gutsy and Intel driver
These are the computers scattered at my home and work and I essentially use video with Ekiga, even though with a couple of persons I have to boot under WinXP and use skype video (this is essentially the only reason why I use Windows). So I am eager for a Linux version of Skype that includes video.
---Beppe---
P.S. BTW the image quality of the Logitech QuickCam Ultra Vision (uvcvideo) is far superior to any other webcam I tried before.

3 Setups, 2 pretty boring ones - older Logitech Webcams work fine out of the box with Ubuntu Gutsy and Feisty ( with newest kernel ).
More interesting is my HP Pavilion dv6000 with a built in web cam. This model comes with either a ricoh or Microdia webcam - mine has the Microdia.
I'm using the uvcvideo driver, and it APPEARED to not work - but there seems to be some issue with usb going to sleep so I thought I would post in case anyone else is knocking their head off a brick wall like I was.
If you're finding that the blue light goes on, showing that the camera is active, but there is no picture, disconnect the call, and restart the USB module using:
sudo modprobe -r uvcvideo && sudo modprobe uvcvideo
This is potentially a motherboard issue from what I've read, which would blow, because I don't want to install Windows just to update my bios!!

There is another problem here with Xgl unfortunately, as it isn't supporting the YUV420P (I420) overlay colour/pixel format either. So even if the camera captures successfully (which looks okay on those settings), then you still won't see anything.
Does the other person see you with these settings?

Hi, glad to be testing the new Skype

How do I find out which driver I am using?
I have a Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000, with embedded mic and such, on a Ati Mobility 9600 gfx card. The cam works with no need of configuration on Ekiga Softphone, but under Skype, I can only use the mic (Test cam results in blank screen).
So, how do i find out so i can vote?
Cheers
