well, you'd find Belarusian slightly easier at least in terms words since there is a number of same or similar words in the languages. however, the grammar is similar to Russian.
i assume that your dislike for Russian is on national level as all Baltic peoples hate Russians.

Hi, I’m interested in language support and keyboard layouts.
If you aren’t going to live in Russia you DON’T NEED standard Russian keyboard (by the way it’s uncomfortable — IMHO). Also DON’T spend money for things like ‘Cyrillic support for you computer’.
As I understand in your case you need only Russian keyboard layout; it’s enough for entering text in Russian in Unicode applications.
It’s possible to type in Russian using phonetic (transliterated) keyboard. Unfortunately it’s not included in Windows so you need to install it additionally.
I recommend to visit VERY GOOD site about using Russian language under Windows and Internet —
RusWin.net.
BUT ADDITIONALLY I recommend to use MS Keyboard Layout Creator — it allows you to create customized layout if you don’t like standard (as me) or templates of Russian phonetic keyboard layout. Also it allows to set up layout quickly on other computers.
PS
If you can’t download MS Keyboard Layout Creator please contact me directly.

http://www.translit.ru/
That’s
BAD solution.
It’s really hard (using your way) to type in Russian using Skype: it’s needed to enter cyrillic on this page (using standard Russian keyboard layout which is really
hard to work with it when you
don’t have physical Russian keyboard) and then copy/paste into Skype. This’s uncomfortable.
I don’t understand why person who has administrative privileges on the computer will use translit.ru. It’s always better to set up
system Russian keyboard layout. If there is
no standard physical Russian keyboard it’s possible to use
phonetic Russian keyboard layout.
Note:
If anyone wish to use Russian
not at his/her own computer (he/she hasn’t administrative privileges at this computer) it’s possible to use [b]
Kbd.RusWin.net).
Have a good time

Do you mean similar words as in Lithuanian and Belarusian languages?
Well, since our countries are neighbours, i believe some words are similar.
And since in 1200 - 1500 Belarus was part of Lithuanian Great Knighthood, (Belarus was formed later, if i remember correctly), it's not surprising how much similar our nations have.
And no, i don't hate russian language. It's more of the teacher's fault.
Okay, i confess that i have some of the national russian hating spirit. But it helped a lot that all the leftover russians that i saw in Lithunian were always drinking, smoking, cursing. Russian kids are greedy, tend to steal, most of them have a noticeably lower IQ than the lithuanians. And as for understanding others - zero, zilch, absolutely nothing. Their mothers scream at their children, drink and smoke and curse.
Either Russia planned for this to happen (leaving all useless bastards in Lithuania, and making their country a little better), or all the good russian people have left Lithuania or they are unnoticeable.

You're a fascist. And you have serious inferiority complex. This explain, why you make so many effort to humble russian peoples.
If you needn't this language - what's for do you learn rassian ? If you are "learning it in school for almoust 3 school years, and still know only enough to read a fairytale for kids in Russian" - May be you have "noticeably lower IQ" than russian : ) ?!
P.S. On the other hand russian has neutral or positive attitude towards lithuanians. And my friends have trip to Lithuanian.

Очень хорошо. Все любят покупать. Но почему на этом уважаемом форуме нет русскоязычного подфорума?
Я бы, например, хотел пообщаться на русском языке. Думаю, что немало народу на всех широтах и в разных странах говорят по-русски.
Very well. Everyone like to buy. But why there is not present Russian-speaking subforum at this dear forum ? I wished to communicate in Russian, for example. I think, there is a lot of people speak Russian at all breadthes and in different countries .

I have to work on Russian language skills and where is the best place to start? I know some words just from hearing them and memorizing them when I was there.
