I want to just confirm before I buy the actual unit. I'm in canada on bell, and want htc touch pro 1. Does skype work with this phone? and if so, can someone tell me of their experience/quality of it's use and calls.
Please and thank you,

Hello,
i have HTC Touch Pro and tried to install Skype for Mobile in several ways.
1.- Skype cab direct to htc download and install.
2.- Skype download from PC and install over active sync.
I installed in HTC device and also tried to install on Memory card.
Installation was successful but when i want to start skype, then i get following Message: "Couldn't find all the neccessary recourse files to start Skype. Please try to install Skype again. Skype will now quit"
So i did bad experiences.

It works.
I purchased a brand new touch pro last week in US and installed Skype for Pocket PC.
I first made a mistake of trying to install the smartphone version and got the exact same screen as the previous picture, but it turned out that touch pro is actually a pocket pc. You do not have to uninstall the smartphone version if you made this mistake. Just overwrite with pocket pc version software.
Connect your phone to the computer with the cable and activate active sync.
I chose the option to install directly onto the phone rather than downloading it first onto the computer.
It installed well and I just called my friend in other country and worked fine.
There is a known issue with htc touch though: Skype phone calls will activate the speakerphone and you cannot make the voice come out from the phone's earpiece. If you need privacy you have to use a headset. It is said that the Skype team is aware of this issue and working on it.

Those who have problems installing ususally install the wrong version.
Skype has now released an integrated installer for both versions to avoid such problems.

yes i do

yes i do
Are you able to call echo123? Do you hear sound?
If yes this may mean that your skype could not connect the contact list server.
If you can't year echo123 it is possible that your skype didn't connect, does your status tab say you are online?

I had this same problem, what I found is that even though I was logged in my status was set to offline. Once I set my status to Online I was able to see my contacts.
Hope this helps.

I'm also thinking of getting the HTC Touch Pro and using Skype.
Has the Speakerphone issue been resolved yet?
Thanks!

Did you set these settings up in skype too? If you use proxy you may need to enter the settings in skype too.

I installed it direct from the Skype website. Works like magic. I do have a few questions though. I have the same problem with audio being routed through the main speaker. Does anyone know if a workaround exists? I have a H5 Motorola bluetooth headset and so far have no success pairing it with Skype on my HTC Touch Pro (Sprint) Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, John

Hi John,
I posted some links to some applications in one of the threads here that redirect voice to front speaker, not all work correctly on all phones though. You can use a wired headset also. Bluetooth headsets don't always work.

I am using Skype Mobile 3.0 on htc touch pro (US provider Sprint) with Win Mobile 6.1. It works great via built-in speaker and mic.
I purchased lately an application called Blue Music (Blue Audio 3
http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=blueaudio) to listen/record audio content via bluetooth headset (aliph Jawbone 2). It works great with all apps with an exception for Skype. No problems with incoming audio. The outgoing sound, however, is 2 times faster than it should be (5 sec playback for 10 seconds recording on Echo/Sound Test Service). According to TekSoft the problem is not on their end. Any suggestions how to fix this problem?

works great for me.
if you install little program called audioroute you can route incoming sound to internal speaker and talk like on any "ordinary" phone.

For me Skype is unusable on the HTC touch pro. I have not tried this audio rerouter. With it, is audio quality as good as it is on a pc?
I have a Skype number. How complete is the solution of using this audio rerouter? Does it work without being choppy? Does it ring for incoming calls? How tedious is it to keep the setup running? ( I am tech savvy but won't use an unreliable solution.) Are there any windows mobile registry tweaks that help?
My HTC touch pro speaker phone is lousy as it is. I can use it under perfect conditions for making mobile calls but often It's useless. It fails to be useful under the same conditions that previous phones have worked just fine.
Using it through the handset audio interface or through a wired or bluetooth headset work well and call clarity is good.
Skype is crystal clear on my ipod touch 2nd gen with the earphones with a mic ( not included). I have alss been pleased with it on on my vaio on windowsXP using a usb headset. Skype is ordinarily clearer than a mobile call.
On the HTC touch pro Quality is even worse on Skype calls than mobile calls. I have not tried audio rerouting, but it seems fairly obvious that Skype for windows mobile is not correctly interfacing with the audio interfaces and from what I experience the problems go beyond audio routing. The audio seems distorted. I had trouble understanding and had to give up. I should probably test it further and am not fully aware of what was going on on the other end.
I don't think what I have said applies to the htc tp2. It could be very different than the htc touch pro.

Does SKYPE work well (clearly) on your mobile when you use the wired headset? If so then the issue is not with the SKYPE installation, it might be a hardware issue.....
Regarding AudioRouter:
I have TD2 and it works very well on that model it is not too fiddley if you remember a few points; start the call in the normal way, i.e. that is so SKYPE will use the external speaker.
Then when the call connects and the other party answers, switch the audio using the AudioRouter by pressing the PURPLE button. This will route the audio to the ear speaker. Audio is perfectly clear on my TD2.
Note, my TD2 is running wm6.5 and the phone pad dialer screen has a "button" protection slider and you have to slide it away before you can operate the Audio Router buttons but it is easy and OK to do.
If you try to route the audio before the call connects then I found on my TD2 that the mic does not work properly and the other party can not hear you. Again it is no problem with a little practice as when the call answers you hear them and while you say "hello" or what ever else you are activating the ear speaker.
After the call you just need to switch back to the std mode by pressing the BLUE button of AudioRouter.
AudioRouter works for SKYPE and also for the built in VOIP software if you have activated that part of your WM OS.

Maybe a silly question, but does Skype for WM work over 3G?

Maybe a silly question, but does Skype for WM work over 3G?
That depends on your phone provider.
It's working technically, UMTS/HSPA alias 3G is fast enough.
but some providers block Skype and/or other VOIP software.
Others do allow it...
So you have to test it with your phone provider...
