I'm having trouble using Skype on my TyTn II. I'm seeing a problem I haven't seen a solution for in this thread.
I've loaded the latest version of Skype for Win Mobile 6 (even tried the pro version for 6.1) but I still get a "Unable to connect to Skype Network. Please check your network connection". I know I'm connected using WIFI since the browser works great as does my Slingbox connection. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm in CA using ATT Unlimited 3G as well. No problems with other aps either on 3G or wifi. Also, I never saw a setup screen that asks if I want to use 3G, WiFi or both as was indicated in another reply. I think it has somthing to do with your network\router configurations.
I have the same problem at home although it works fine at the cofeeshop wireless wifi. If you find an answer, I will be happy to know about it. Thank, Rami. |

I can't get access with either 3G or WiFi. Browser works fine for either. When I open Skype, I get one screen that has the Sign In information. On the bottom of the screen are "Sign In" and "Quit". There is no "Options" menu. Can you confirm which version I should be downloading and installing? Pro or non-pro for the Tytn II. I'm guessing that the Skype application is not getting access to the network via either service (3G or Wifi). Is there a way to check this? Thanks for the help... |

Yes, options menu is not there before you manage to sign in. I suggest you quit Skype, delete Skype folder from Application Data, then start Skype again. Now there should be a screen with a combobox, with wifi only selected as default. choose wifi and 3G. This of course won't solve the problem with the wifi connection but should let you use 3g. Have you tried it with any other wifi router? Regards, -------------------- Best regards,

Thanks for the help Peter. I did what you said, deleted the Skype folder (actually did this 3 times), fiddled, fiddled a bit more and now magically it worked. Had to reset the phone. Had to reload the network properties. Had to turn off wifi. Restart again. Then it worked on 3G. Turned on wifi. Now it works with either. Can't really say exactly what the cause was, but I'm a happy camper now.
I'm off to Skype someone, just for fun! |

I also tried the smartphone version, but that displays pretty blurred (icons don't show, names look weird etc) and sound quality is the same or worse.

Im still confused. Is there, or is there not, a fix for Skype on Tytn II so it does not always play through the Speakerphone?

I've had at least 6 attempts to reinstall (direct to TyTn from WiFi, Via Active Synch, different versions..) butI have not found an answer post; Do I need to manually remove the program before reinstalling? What else can I try? Skype is crucial for my new company and the HTC will have to go back if I can't find a fix. Thanks Tim Hi, Skype works fine on the tytn II so lets try to figure out what is wrong in your situation. You say you downloaded the .cab. I presume you downloaded the Pocket PC .cab cause that is the one you need for the tytn II. Before installing again uninstall Skype from Remove programs and delete all skype files manually. There are 5 files, name starting with skype in windows folder. There is the skype folder in Program files and then the skype folder in application data. Try installing again. Try to install to memory first not to sd card. Regards, -------------------- Best regards,

Thankyou Péter: I had assumed the TyTn2 was a smartphone; not Pocket PC.
It would be very helpful to have a summary box of the key points for the TyTn2 and Skype. Showing the version recommended, the lack of phone speaker / video capability, success with blutooth devices etc. This might also reduce the risk of the mud slinging earlier in the thread (both combatants had a point!) If is part of your remit to make a summary: That would be great. If not: My contribution to the community will be to summarise the 5 pages which took me 2 or 3 hours to digest last night and then post. The problem is some people might follow the whole thread before they get to the summary. How about a 'Read me First' or 'Top tips' at the begining of the thread. Thanks again Tim |

Hey, Peter what's your opinion when finally engineers of skype will make it possible video-support for windows mobile ( I want to believe and hope it's going to be soon...) will I need to change my phone which is going to support 4th generation of internet (like WiMax let's say) or mine HTC TYTN ii with 3.5g will be enough?? Thanks

Thanks My personal opinion is that Skype needs to focus on audio right now and get it right for everybody, when the reliability and quality required are good enough we can move into video realm. Again this is my my personal opinion. I can't talk about Skype future plans, sorry. -------------------- Best regards,
