Yes I second this entirely. That would be a GREAT idea. I know loads of people that have PSPs that wish they could use skype. They have been talking about it for ages on some PSP forums too.

I agree. I have had a PSP for no more than 3 days and already wish a Skype version was available for it. With the PSP's internet browser it would boost skype usage a lot, because the PSP can connect to any wireless internet hotspot. It would be a great thing to have skype for the PSP.

They have made a microphone for the psp because some games let you talk with the other players. The new camera for the PSP would be great for video though. yes.png yes.png yes.png yes.png yes.png

Yes they really should make use of the Wi-Fi capability on the PSP. Apparently jajah.com does something similar based on a mobile webpage as does webmessenger from http://mob.e-messenger.net/mobile/
Now all I need is the logic3 keyboard and we're talking! :-)

There is no need in a keyboard for psp! Psp has got a virtual keyboard!

OK here is how it goes. (FYI i am a lucky owner of PSP)

First of all what is Sony and Apple? Basically Apple released an iPhone not allowing 3d party applications on it as of yet. PSP has pretty much the same standards. Sony does not want any 3d party applications on it and is fighting that. They are called Homebrew.

If Skype is to make a version for Sony PSP then that means:
1. Put Skype on every PSP
2. Sell PSP with Additional hardware (microphone, camera) for a bigger price =>> Loosing customers. This is not racional due to that fact 20 out of 100 would use Skype on PSP. And even though that matters for Skype I don't think sony would agree to start putting Skype on PSP and for some users making it really just take up space on memory card beacause PSP is about a totally different thing and was never meant for talking over it.

Remember it is for playing wink.png Stick to that wink.png

There are no official plans for making a Skype version for PSP

Well this really sucks for me lol.I have been waiting for skyype to go on psp ever since i bought my psp on th Relese date march 24 2005 right ? I think lol.
Best way to have skype would be putting it on every psp.
Or
Homebrew version would be nice instead.
for one I dont even use my psp for games any more. just music and videos and the occasional homebrew.
skype is the one feature or homebrew I have waited for which make me sad to hear no plannes.
psp has 2 diffrent mics that are avalible to buy for about $20.

What about making a Flash Version of Skype for The psp's Web browser? psp only supports flash 5 i belive tho or 6 at the highest.

Which part of Sony battling Homebrew do you not understand? wasntme.png
Making Skype on PSP as homebrew would straight away put us in court for that. However making a legal agreement with Sony to put Skype on every PSP is OK. And as said above no such things are even in the plans.

Sorry but me personally speaking as a normal person and not as an employee - I do not see that happening. I heard of people making same proposal to Sony. This is the company that is the start point. I mean their approval is needed. And since they do not allow other software on their PSP I can't see that happening. Name at least one third party software on Sony PSP made by another company? wasntme.png See there is none. At least according to my latest firmware.

Man.I think Your 100% right. sadsmile.png lol.so the only way that is possible is a Umd Version of skype. So maybe we buy the skype umd for what $10 - $20 would be sorta nice and this is possible. othere then UMD there is no way for skype to get on the psp.You guys would have to talk to sony or somthing But i see your point that there is no way for psp to get skype any time soon. This is just to bad would be a Great Feature.WEll all i can say is i hope it happens one day. maybe not on psp but psp2 wink.png will have to wait and see what happens in the future. skype.png

Edit: i see they made skype for Iphones bye using the Webbrowser. SkypeforiPhone.com
Now only if this was possible for psp wink.png

I don't know much of the details but there has been a few rumors of sony including skype in a future firmware release. I googled "Skype PSP" becuase the idea popped into my head today, There is supposedly some code in the current firmware that refers to a Skype plugin. I am not sure if it's true or not but it could be a possibility. I am another supporter of Skype on the PSP, it seems that the PSP has failed as a portable game system for the most part but has been picking up slack as a multimedia device and a internet device. I use a mobile IM site occasionally and I make use of the web browser for emergency email checking. To turn the PSP into a Skype phone would at least quadruple my usage of my PSP. Even though the battery life of the original PSP models leave a bit to be desired

There must be a Skype/PSP conspiracy... I've been watching this topic across the web for a while now, but today I also googled "PSP Skype" because it popped into my head. I hadn't gotten as far as seeing some of the stuff you mentioned about references to a Skype Plugin for the PSP. I couldn't agree more with your thoughts... I play a couple of games (mostly Tiger Woods) but for the most part my PSP sits in the nightstand next to my bed, waiting for the next "just before bed, not tired yet" round of gaming, listening to a podcast, or a quick email check." If skype was on my PSP, I might have to get it surgically removed at some point. I guess I'd have to invest in one of those bulky aftermarket "mega" battery packs though.

Thanks for the info.
