A group of students and myself from the University of South Florida are conducting a simple survey on Skype user satisfaction. It consists of a short automated Skype call, followed by a brief questionnaire. The entire process should take less than three minutes. If you would like to help us with our research please visit:

As a new Skype user, I found this survey rather fun to fill out. The interaction and quick connection is impressive.

I'd also like to note that I have had a few comments about the survey not working. If you experience any problems please message me. We have only tested the setup with the most recent Mac (Intel & PPC) beta clients, and the latest Windows release. It is possible that older clients have problems with the Beta version of the Skype API we are using on the server. We won't be sure until we get feedback. Thanks!

Did the survey Rodrigo, it worked well for me, nice way to do a survey.

I wouldn't give the results to Skype, not unless you are compensated in some way either financially or with Skype credit. A company pays a lot of money to do customer research like this.

I live near Tampa and really wanted to help out the local university...... I use every day and would love to share my thoughts. I'll try again later...... I'm on a G5 iMac / OS 10.4

I tried the survey using skype - but the out-going call was never answered.

Yes, nice way to make a satisfaction survey!

And i followed Ike's suggestion (she also pointed me to this forum post): i blogged about it!

After Skyping with Rodrigo, we determined that the problem was that I limit my chats to known contacts. Therefore, it is necessary to make the 'survey' a contact (it has a user name: CRASAR1) before it will send you the chat with the link to the online survey. Once I did that, it worked like a charm. If you allow everyone to Skype you, you don't have to do this step...... but, I suspect a lot of Skypers limit their contacts.

Rodrigo will put something on the initial survey page about this process...... glad we got it figured out!

Wow... thanks for everyone that has done the survey today, commented on bugs, and/or blogged about it!

Regarding the issue of completing the call portion of the survey but not receiving the chat message. Looking at the logs on the server, the people that have posted issues have been sent a message, but for whatever reason the message is not reaching the destination. So my hypothesis is that people may have the setting that blocks chats from non-contacts turned on.

There are two workarounds for this:

1) Turn off that setting (which you probably don't want to do).
2) Add the contact CRASAR1 before placing the call.

I will modify the instructions on our website to tackle this issue. Also, regarding people that have placed a call and it never answers; we're using the official-unoffical Skype Java API which may be a factor, but we're working on weeding that bug out too.
