Problem with Talk for Britain Offer

Hi - On Friday 20th October, I took advantage of the Skype Talk for Britain offer by prepaying the 10 euros. I then duly waited the 72 hours and began using Skype to call UK landlines.
Problem is, I've been charged for these calls which are supposed to be free under the offer. I have not received an email from Skype to advise me that I can start calling free. However, it is now Tuesday 24th October - well and truly past the 72 hours - and I'm not getting the deal that was promised. Is anyone else having these problems? Can anyone advise me? I've not been able to find anything on the knowledgebase, and though I have tried to contact Skype via the support email service I'm finding them difficult to reach. Grateful for any help or comments. John |

Hi again Spud, Yes - it seems that at least one person qualified for the promotion using Euros. Three possible reasons: 1. The poster typed Euros when he meant to say GBP. 2.Skype made a mistake in allowing the poster to qualify. 3.The promotion does, after all, allow for payments in Euros as well as GBP! It does seem to be confusing some people. -------------------- Regards,

You should receive your confirmation from Skype shortly. They indicate 'within 72 hours' but I understand that they are running a little behind. Also - the 3 days indicated is usually 3 WORKING days which, in your case, would be today. -------------------- Regards,

If Skype are a little behind then that is fine. What is not fine is failing to deliver, it does not say 3 working days anywhere in the promo material. It simply says 72 hours.
For a communications company Skype are inadequate when communicating with their paying customers. Still waiting for free calls activation.... |

I ordered mine with £10 on the 21st October and i'm still waiting, I received an email on the 21st saying 72 hours to activation and it did not mention anywhere on the email that i would receive another email when it was activated. I tried to use it last night and i was charged for the calls. the email does not mention anything about working days it clearly says 72 Hours. I emailed customer services asking for the money for my call costs to be returned to my account but no reply as yet. I'll wait and see what happens, I hope this is not another case of no TalkTalk (pun intended), they are not owned by CarPhoneWarehouse are they? lol.
here's hoping Skype sort this out and it doesn't become a red herring. QUOTE(mspoke @ Wed Oct 25 2006, 08:53) If Skype are a little behind then that is fine. I joined this offer last week and ordered my credit, this is well and truly over 72hrs, double in fact. Can someone from Skype tell me what is happening? otherwise I will be contacting the relevant authorities regarding this offer. Advertising Standards Agency, anyone know if that applies to internet? Cmon Skype must do much better if you want people to take your service seriously and actually use it. |

Hi Norman If you check the terms & conditions, it clearly states: "To enter the Promotion the Participant must sign in into his/her Skype account and purchase any amount of Skype credit" It doesn't mention currency, and it doesn't specify a required amount of prepayment. Very confusing and unclear. John |

Me too - but perhaps if it is 3 working days then maybe I will hear today. But they do say 72 hours which doesn't imply anything to do with working days. Hope it's not 72 working hours otherwise it could be a couple of wks.

Please see below a statement from SKYPE staff, at least they are aware your issues:
"We are really sorry to hear that some users have experienced problems with Talk for Britain. We are working extremely hard to resolve these issues and will update our website as soon as the problems are resolved" Alistair Shrimpton SKYPE STAFF -------------------- "We judge ourselves by what we feel capable of doing, while others judge us by what we have already done."
"Los tiempos estan cambiando." However unlike some, I got no issue to recieve a PM if you have tried all other avenues. For fraud please PM me anytime. If I can help I will. But please try the forums first. For BLOCKED and HACKED Accounts, please follow below, BEFORE the PM, me: http://forum.skype.com/index.php?act=annou...f=24&id=221 I WILL NOT indeed CANNOT RESPOND TO PM'S UNLESS YOU ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS IN ABOVE LINK!! Gladiator - thanks for the update, but where has this statement come from?
Do you work for Skype? I would expect Skype to have posted this statement on the Talk for Britain promotion page. Please let us know where this statement has been officially announced. People are not p'd off because something has gone wrong, but becasue of the deafening silence from Skype. |
