IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR SKYPE VIDEO USERS AND A USB WEBCAM

A lot of people seem to be having trouble getting their USB webcam to work with Skype Video. I have a Logitech Communicate STX which works great with Skype video and other chatvideo applications. You absolutely definitely have to install "macam.component" into "library" -> "QuickTime" folder. Possibly, you may have to reboot your machine. Once this is done, Skype Video is set for video. Macam can be downloaded here:
http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/downloads.html

The "macam" application is less important, you can copy it to your applications folder if you like. The only important item is "macam.component". As mentioned earlier, copy this item to the appropriate folder and your set to go.

my cam works fine with QT or ichat, via macam drivers, but skype sais "no camera" ? crying.png

BUT skype works fine with "isight"......

so, i've try several install-unsinstall of skype and macam.component >>> no change

then i've try to "repair permissions" >>>> no change

I got a Logitech QuickCam. Video works fine. Even Using the Cam as Audio-In works. But when I choose the Cam as audio in in the Skype audio prefs, Video stops working sadsmile.png. Any ideas? I am on 1.5.0.52 (Video preview).

Another advice: Don't install macam and IOXperts at the same time!

Once I did and my cam was not working at all, even it has got is own drivers. But I wanted to test macam and IOXperts. When both are installed at the same time, video does not work fine.

If your cam is supported but doies not work, check you don't have any IOXperts component if you want to use macam (and so in reverse).

Hmmm... Also be sure to close iChat when you open Skype, or any other video applicattion. The camera can send video to only one application at the same time.

If you open iChat and Skype simultaneously, the first one gets the cam and the second will show "no cam connected" message or similar.

With "library" I mean "library" at the root (first) level of your hard disk, not the "library" located in the "users" folder. When in doubt, use Cmd-F to locate the "QuickTime" folder.

Click and double-click several times "Camera" in your video preferences. Dunno why but it works after two or threee times.

Hello -

How do I know if I still have ioexperts installed? I did have it installed at one point.

My main problem is that I send a white box instead of video when I am using bluetooth headset for audio in/out.

Cheers,

Tobias

I bought QuickCam Chat and downloaded macam software. As Jan said, I install the macam.component to library - Quicktime folder. it didn’t work at first. the video preference said ‘No Webcam connected”. but it seem to work when I put in the macam source folder to Quicktime as well. the video preference then show “camera’.

when i tested it in my computer it seem okay. i can see myself. but it doesn’t work on skype. i can see (view) my skype contact but they can’t see me. what’s the problem?

And what is reboot mean and how to do it? Please help!

hi,

I have a no-name webcam which normally works fine. Only Skype does not seem to realise that I have a cam installed. Any ideas why that could be?

Hello,

I have a gemini webcam. It was installed on my laptop with one user namer. Since I added the 2nd user name I have problems. The program shows it is installed but the camera will just show shadows black & green. Whe I uninstall the program and reinstall it will work but later the problem happens again. Does anyone have this problem?

I'm trying to get my firewire Canon ZR-30 camcorder to work with Skype and so far have been having no luck. It shows up as a selectable camera in the Video options tab but no picture shows up. Any suggestions?
